From the state capital Bangalore, Shimoga can be reached on road by on NH-206. (via Tumkur, Arasikere, Banavara, Kadur, Birur, Tarikere, and Bhadravathi.) KSRTC, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, runs several buses from Bangalore, including Hitech and night services. Shimoga is around 274 km (170 mi) by road from Bangalore. From coastal side, Shimoga is accessible by bus or car. This route passes through Agumbe Ghat or Balebare Ghat roads. Mangalore, Sringeri, Dharmasthala, Udupi, Hubli are connected by Road to this city. Shimoga is better connected with roads from all directions and as such, it is an important bus junction. Murudeshwara is a holy city dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated in the southern state of Karnataka, on the coast of the Arabian Sea. This city mainly prides itself on having the second tallest sculpture of Lord Shiva in the whole world.

Murudeshwara is easily accessible by bus, train and by air. The nearest airport is Mangalore airport, which is 133km away from the city. All the trains that connect Mangalore and Mumbai pass through the Murudeshwar Railway Station, which makes it conveniently accessible by frequent trains. Other nearby cities like Kochi, Bangalore and Mumbai are connected to Murudeshwara through very efficient bus service.

You can also take elephant safaris. Since this reserve is located at the foothills of Nilgiris, you have abundant spots adventure activities like trekking, camping, and mountaineering. You can take a guided camping activity and listen to the camping stories that can give you an adrenalin rush.

You can also find a forest of well-preserved sandalwood trees in this reserve. August to November is the best time to visit the reserve as the climate is cool. The safaris ride is only for duration of 45 minutes, strictly. There are very few places to see at this reserve.

Nestled along the untamed river Cauvery, Bheemeshwari is a petite town situated in the Mandya district of Karnataka. Located around a distance of 103 kilometers from Bangalore, Bheemeshwari is called an angler’s paradise for the kind of angling and fishing experience it offers.  Tucked away somewhere off the Kanakapura-Kollegal Highway, Bheemeshwari is a five-kilometer short drive away from Muthathi. The famous getaway near Bangalore is frequented by the city dwellers for adventure activities involving pulsating sports like rafting, kayaking, trekking, camping, angling, wildlife safaris etc. The activities are mostly conducted around the confluence of river Cauvery and Arkavathi rivers.

As you enter the forest area, you will be checked well before letting you in, especially for alcohol and hunting gears. Bheemeshwari is cherished as a great weekend destination from Bangalore as it offers in abundance,  Traversing across the river water in a rustic coracle is one of the other factors which acts as a magnet to hundreds and thousands of city dwellers to make a halt at Bheemeshwari. An action-packed weekend in Bheemeshwari starts with tents on the bank of river Cauvery for camping, bonfire at night and glorious sunrises on your morning jog or walk. Trek in the nearby forest stretches and walk uphill to the peaks, embark on a heart-throbbing rafting expedition, eat locally made food, mostly basic yet tasty meals in your camps. Situated at a distance of around 7 kilometers from Bheemeshwari, Doddamakali is an isolated stretch of forest whereas Galibore is also a natural habitat for fish which is located 16 kilometers away from Bheemeshwari. Mekedatu is another off-the-beaten destination near Bheemeshwari which has many untrodden jungle trails and waterfalls. Sangam is a mesmerizing confluence point of river Cauvery and river Arkavathi where people often flock for picnicking. Kokrebellur Pelicanry is one of Asia’s largest habitat for migratory birds home to pelicans and painted storks. 

The best time to visit Bheemeshwari is between September to February for experiencing a pleasant weather and the rivers come alive after the monsoon months. The city of Ramanagara rose into prominence after it was used as a setting in the Bollywood cult classic, Sholay. It is located approximately 50kms away from Bangalore and is connected to the metropolitan by buses that take around 90 minutes to travel between the two places. Ramanagara does not have airports or railway junctions of its own, and the nearest city that connects it to flight or rail services is Bangalore.

The Best time to visit this city would be in the winter months when the climate is not too hot to enjoy the outdoors.

Karwar is a beautiful town in the Uttara Kannada district of the Indian state of Karnataka. Situated at an elevation of 830 meters above the sea level there is a popular myth relating to the name of Kushalnagar. If legends are to be believed, Kushalnagar got its name by Hyder Ai who was camping here when he got the news of the birth of his son, Tipu that is when he called the place as Kushyal Nagar i.e. the town of gladness.  

Not as popular as Coorg hill station but when you are on a holiday, you definitely must visit Kushalnagar at least for a day tour. Rich in wildlife and a myriad of exotic birds, the town is a paradise for nature and photography lovers. For others there are monasteries, temples, waterfalls and more. So, irrespective of your age or interests, Kushalnagar will only please you with its surroundings, ambience and activities.

One of the most commercially important cities of Karnataka is Bijapur. But it is also a very famous tourist destination for some historical monuments and structures. The place was known to be made by the Kalyani Chalukyas in the 11th century. Bijapur is also known for having some of the best ancient histories of Karnataka. This place is often called the Agra of South India for having some of the very famous and wonderful structures in the city. 

Bijapur is very famous for having one of the top attractions of Karnataka, which is Gol Gumbaj. This city is also called the city with Gol Gumbaj, and many tourists visit every year to witness this beauty. Monsoon and summers are not ideal times to visit as rain may dampen your trip while in the summer the heat may get to you.

An industrial city in the state of Karnataka, Tumakuru, also referred to as Tumkur, is located in the southern part of the state. Tumkur is located about 70 kilometers northwest of Bangalore, the state capital, between National Highway 48 and National Highway 73.

In addition to its hilly terrain and streams, this area is also lush with greenery, adding to its aesthetic beauty. As Krishna and Cauvery make their way through these hills, the sky and rivers touch these mountains at a height of 4000 feet. Additionally, the district is also referred to as 'Kalpataru Nadu' (Land of Coconuts) due to the abundant availability of coconuts.

Tumkur is replete with picture-perfect stops which include the Shivaganga hills that are sacred and revered by the Tumkur locals. A natural spring named Namada Chilume issuing from the rock surface is one of the most popular spots and has a legend associated with it. For those that fancy a wonderful sunset will find solace in the 17th century Devarayanadurga Fort erected by Chikka Devaraja Wadiyar.

Among the things one can do in Tumkur are hiking in the nearby Siddaganga hills and Ramadevara betta besides trekking up till the Bhoga Narsimha temple. The land of coconuts enjoys plenty of sunshine all through the year without too much rainfall, hence this city offers loads of sightseeing opportunities. 

Agumbe, popularly known as the ‘Cherrapunji of South’, is a tiny village nestled in the thick rainforests of Western Ghats in Karnataka. It is one of the last surviving rainforests in India which receives an average of around 7,000mm of rainfall annually. With a population of around 500 people, Agumbe is situated in the Thirthahalli taluka of Shimoga district of North Karnataka.

Agumbe is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its rich biodiversity, waterfalls and red-hazy sun-set over the Arabian Sea. The village is also known as the ‘Cobra Capital’ of India because of the number of Cobras that are found here and could be encountered while driving along the Ghats. It is also a home to more than 70 other species of snakes.

Far from the hustle and bustle of cities, it is India’s one of the best places to explore the wildlife and the scenic views of Western Ghats. The major attraction of Agumbe is its dense forests where tourists enjoy trekking, hiking, rafting and bike-riding. Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is also a major tourist attraction of this place where one can easily witness different species of butterflies, snakes, deer, scorpions, moths and many more animals.

Since it is situated at an altitude of 249m above sea level and surrounded by Western Ghats, the temperature remains pleasant for most parts of the year. Although, the best season to visit Agumbe is post-monsoon and winter as rain makes this place more green and beautiful to visit.

The temperature remains between 16 degrees Celsius to 23 degree Celsius in the post rainy season. It's the best time to explore the scenic view of lush greenery and high mountains covered with dense fog.

Mighty and magnificent, at an elevation of 1200 metres, Biligirirangana Hills stand tall at the confluence of the Eastern and Western Ghats in South Karnataka, and are frequented for their diverse flora and fauna.
