Ponte Vecchio is a closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge in Florence, Italy spanning over the Arno river. It was built in 1345 to replace another bridge that was destroyed in the flood. It is mostly full of tourists enjoying the view, musicians playing songs, artists making portraits and all sorts of entertainers can be found on this bridge.

Along with this hustle and bustle, there are many shops positioned at both sides of the bridge designed in the medieval style. It also organizes concerts occasionally and offers boat rides in the river. Back in the day the bridge was home to fishmongers, butchers, and tanners and it was not always touristy and sparkly as there was a time when this bridge stank as butchers were allowed to throw their waste directly into the river.

However, after going through years of transformation it has become a tourist hub. Tourists come here to take a stroll on the street which offers a lot of jewellery shops, antique piees, souvenirs and a spectacular view. So, if shopping for gold is in your mind, the entire bridge is lined with jewelry stores. There are also various restaurants and eateries around the bridge for you to stop and take a bite.

The bridge links the old city with some famous sites on the other side (such as the Pitti Palace of the Medici’s) and picturesque neighborhoods. There are also artisans living and working on the opposite side and you can find shops with pottery, leather, handmade paper and other special gifts. Let’s read ahead what Ponte Vecchio has in store for you.

I selected the 24-hour pass as I planned for a short trip to Florence. But I didn't expect that I could explore so much even with this pass. I visited a lot of places.
