How to Reach:

By Air: The easiest way to travel to Spiti is by air. The nearest airport is Chandigarh International Airport which operates frequent flights across the country.  

By Road: Another option is The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) which operates buses to nearby states and Union territories on a daily basis.

By Rail: Chandigarh Junction Railway is also a feasible option as it is well-connected to other major cities in India and closer to Spiti Valley. 

9 Day Spiti Bike Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Reach Chandigarh and Transfer to Shimla | Meet your Bikes and the Fellow Riders
Shimla
  • Reach the pre-decided spot in Chandigarh where a representative will help you meet with your fellow riders.
  • You will then meet your road captain who will be leading the entire trip and will brief you about the terrain and will draw out a day-wise final plan.
  • After the briefing, you will be introduced to the Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycles that you will be riding for the rest of the tour.
  • Start your ride by taking the Himalayan Expressway towards Shimla.
  • On reaching Shimla, check in to the hotel and take a rest for a while.
  • In the evening you are free to explore the local markets shopping for souvenirs.
  • Overnight stay at your hotel in Shimla.
Day 2
Shimla to Sarahan | Witness the Unexplored Valley Curtained with Forests of Oaks and Cedar
Sarahan
  • Start your day with a delicious breakfast and get ready to ride to Sarahan.
  • You will then be travelling through the rich forests of Deodar, breathtaking views of the valley, snow-covered mountain peaks and fast-flowing rivers.
  • Once you reach Sarahan you will check in to the hotel and take some rest.
  • Later in the evening, explore the small village of Sarahan with its slate-roofed houses that compose pictures of pastoral perfection and is surrounded by fields and orchards.
  • Return back to the hotel in the evening for an overnight stay in Sarahan.
Day 3
Sarahan to Sangla | A Scenic Beauty that Rests in the Greater Himalayas near Indo-Tibetan Border
Sangla
  • Wake up early in the morning to experience one of the most beautiful sunrises.
  • After a delicious breakfast, you will leave for one of the most beautiful views of Kinnaur Valley.
  • Travel along the Sutlej river till Karcham from where you will take a right turn towards Sangla following the Baspa river.
  • Home to a large number of Buddhists, Sangla, with its red apple orchards and luscious cherry trees, is bounded by strapping mountain slopes and sprawling forests.
  • Overnight stay and dinner at the hotel in Sangla.
Day 4
Sangla to Nako | Spin the 500 Year Old Prayer Wheel Made of Yak Skin
Nako
  • After early morning breakfast, you will be leaving for Nako passing through the beautiful Spiti Valley.
  • En route, you will be taking the Indo-Tiber Highway and pass through Khab Bridge that marks the confluence of Spiti and the Satluj River.
  • You will then proceed to Nako which is the last village of Kinnaur Valley.
  • Overnight stay in Nako.
Day 5
Nako to Kaza and Local Sightseeing | Walk the Artistically Painted Rooms at Key Monastery
Kaza
  • Wake up early in the morning to a beautiful view of sunrise and have a healthy breakfast.
  • Hit the roads and just as you cross Sumdo you will be entering the Spiti Valley.
  • Just 3 Km after Sumdo, take a detour on the right through the gate to visit the 500-Year-Old Mummy in the Gue Village.
  • You will then proceed towards Kaza where you can have your lunch before heading out to explore Kaza.
  • After lunch, you will ride towards the world famous Ki Monastery nestled between the mountains in a bowl shaped valley of the small village Langza in Spiti valley.
  • You will then go farther up the valley to the picturesque village of Kibber to treasure the expanses of beautiful landscapes and immeasurable beauty of the snow-tipped mountains.
  • From Kibber, you will drive higher up to the secluded village of Gette where you can absorb stunning aerial views of Kaza and tie a prayer flag.
  • Overnight stay at Kaza.
Day 6
Sightseeing in Kaza | Send out Postcards Stamped at the Top of the World
Kaza
  • Enjoy a hearty breakfast before you drive to some of the highest inhabited regions of the world.
  • First, you will be visiting the highest village in Asia, Komik, which literally translates to ‘eye of a snow cock’.
  • You will then proceed to Hikkim for a visit to the world’s highest post office in the world and if possible, you may even meet the postmaster and hear his stories.
  • After sending out a postcard, you will be driving to Langza, a village that is home to the ancient Lang Temple which is estimated to be around 1000 years old.
  • Overnight stay in Kaza.
Day 7
Kaza to Kalpa with Detour to Dhankar | Spot the Sacred Shivling Rock Atop the Kailash Mountain
Kalpa
  • After a delicious breakfast, you will be retracing your path towards Kalpa in Kinnaur Valley.
  • On your way back take a small detour towards the left to visit the tiny hamlet of Dhankar, perched high above the confluence of the Spiti and Pin River.
  • If time permits, do take an hour’s climb above the village to visit the stunning turquoise Dhankar Tso or Dhankar Lake to enjoy stunning views of the valley.
  • You will then start your journey further leaving behind Spiti Valley and at Powari take a right towards ReoKong Peo, which is the main town of Kinnaur district from where you will proceed to Kalpa.
  • Spend the night in the beautiful Kalpa village overlooking the Kinnaur Kailash mountains.
  • Overnight stay at camp/homestay in Kalpa.
Day 8
Kalpa to Narkanda | The Apple Capital of India
Narkanda
  • Post breakfast at the hotel, you will head towards Narkanda, known as the fruit bowl of Himachal Pradesh.
  • First, you will travel down to Powari from where you will be taking a right turn onto the NH 5 along the Satluj River.
  • You will then travel through the slithering roads following the Sutlej and passing the rich Deodhar forests to reach Narkanda.
  • Overnight stay in Narkanda.
Day 9
Narkanda to Chandigarh | Bid Farewell to the Mountains
Chandigarh
  • After having a hearty breakfast, you will leave for Narkanda.
  • Ride through the roads lined with apple and cherry trees with the tall Deodhar fir trees spreading their sweet aroma all around.
  • On the way, you will be passing through Chail, a hill station in the lower Himalayan range and home to beautiful flower orchards.
  • Once you reach Chandigarh, will be handing over your bikes and this will mark the end of your amazing motorbiking expedition.

Know Before You Go for 9 Day Spiti Bike Tour

  • For safety purposes, a biking tour is not recommended for women who are more than 3 months pregnant, anyone that has had major surgery, or has a broken leg/arm, has chronic back or neck pains, etc.
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; it is advisable that you take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the tour. The advisable baggage weight is 60 litres as you might have to carry the luggage to the backup vehicle, the accommodation, etc.
  • The hotels are subject to their availability. In case they are not available, the travellers will be accommodated in a property of similar standard.
  • Pay heed to the tour guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound tour.
  • All entry tickets for stupas, monasteries, sightseeing, state and entry fees, monument entrances, camera charges, permits, etc. are not a part of the package.
  • GST is applicable to the package cost.
  • Any personal expenses or items of personal nature will not be included in the package. Any meals or transfers not mentioned in the itinerary are to be considered an exclusion in the deal. Any kind of drink (alcoholic, aerated, or mineral water) is not included in the package cost.
  • All the travellers are requested to carry a copy of their medical certificate (if any) with them.
  • Transportation during the trip would be in Non AC & Non-Heater vehicles. Please wear clothes according to the weather while travelling.
  • ID proof is mandatory for each individual guest at the time of booking, and also upon arrival. PAN card will not be considered as a valid address proof.
  • There will be a refundable security deposit per bike depending on the variant selected. Please ensure you pay that in advance and carry the receipt with you at all times to get a refund later.
  • Rates may fluctuate with any change in services/hotels. The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to an increase in the number of guests, hotel change, etc., before the beginning of the trip.
  • Any breakage or damage of any items in the resort will be charged at actuals.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government is to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask recommended.
  • In case a rider leaves the bike in the middle of the trip, charges for re-transporting the bike to the destination will be borne by the rider.
  • Any fuel for the bikes, any charges for spares parts and damage caused to the bikes, etc. will be charged at extra.
  • Check your bikes properly before every day's ride and keep the tour guide informed of the same.
  • Always carry your driver's license, wear helmets and riding gear, etc., while riding a bike.
