Sreekanteswara Temple is located in the heart of Kozhikode, and is dedicated to lord Shiva. It was founded in the early 20th century by reformer Sree Narayana Guru. The temple serves as a powerful symbol of spiritual equality, where visitors from all walks of life are welcomed, making it one of the best places to visit in Calicut. The temple carries on the Guru's message of unity and compassion, so active in community welfare and cultural education outside of its religious purpose.
The traditional Kerala architecture, which includes wooden carvings and tiled roofs, makes for a calm, spiritual place.
Even though festivals are celebrated all year round, the main festival celebrated here is Mahashivratri. Large crowds are drawn, and it is celebrated here with vibrant celebrations filled with lights, chants, and classical performances.
