Winter (November to February): Peak Season

  • Daytime temperatures range between 10ยฐC and 28ยฐC, making full-day sightseeing comfortable
  • Clear skies and full post-monsoon lakes create the best conditions for Lake Pichola boat rides and palace photography

  • Accommodation prices are at their highest, and lakeside dining fills up quickly
  • Book Udaipur tour packages at least 2 to 3 months in advance for heritage hotels and sunset boat ride slots

Spring and Autumn (September to October, March): Shoulder Season

  • September is the most photogenic month, with peak lake levels and maximum greenery across the Aravalli Hills
  • October offers lush hill scenery as the monsoon recedes

  • Afternoon temperatures can reach up to 38ยฐC; plan sightseeing for mornings and evenings

Summer and Monsoon (April to August): Low Season

  • April to June offers the lowest Udaipur tour package prices of the year, best suited for budget travellers
  • The monsoon from July to August fills Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake and turns the surrounding Aravalli Hills lush green

Must-Visit Places and Experiences in Udaipur

Udaipur has several places to visit that offer a different taste of experience, from royal palaces to shimmering lakes and living heritage ghats, making every Udaipur tour package a journey through the many layers of Mewar history and culture.

1. City Palace Udaipur

The City Palace Udaipur was built in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II on the eastern edge of Lake Pichola and expanded over 400 years by successive Mewar rulers. The Royal Museum inside takes you through courtyards like Mor Chowk, private chambers, and viewing galleries that look out across the lake toward the Aravalli Hills.

As per Thrillophiliaโ€™s customer data and reviews, it's better to arrive at 9:30 am when the palace opens to get ahead of the crowds and the morning heat. Set aside 2 to 3 hours for a proper visit.

2. Lake Pichola

A boat ride on Lake Pichola is the single most important experience in any Udaipur tour package. The best time is during sunset, usually between 5 pm and 6 pm, when the light softens, and the facade of the City Palace Udaipur begins to glow.

Shared sunset boat rides cost around INR 800 per person; private boats range from INR 3,000 to INR 5,000 per hour, with higher rates during the peak sunset slot. A standard boat ride takes about one hour; a stop at Jag Mandir extends it to 1.5 hours.

3. Saheliyon-ki-Bari

Built in the early 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh, Saheliyon-ki-Bari was designed as a retreat for the queen and her 48 companions. Its most remarkable feature is the gravity-and-pressure-fed fountain system, with marble elephant fountains in the central pool and 48 fine jets arranged in a grid.

Thrillophiliaโ€™s on-ground team recommends visiting between 8 am and 9 am before group tours arrive. Allow 45 to 60 minutes for the garden and small on-site museum.

4. Bagore-ki-Haveli: Dharohar Show and Folk Dance

Located on Gangaur Ghat facing Lake Pichola, Bagore-ki-Haveli has over 100 rooms with displays of royal costumes, jewellery, and domestic objects. The Queen's Chamber stands out for its detailed glasswork. The real highlight is the Dharohar cultural show, which runs from 7 pm to 8 pm in the inner courtyard.

Arrive by 6:30 pm for good seating. The program features Ghoomar and Kalbeliya folk dances along with traditional puppet performances. Note that cars cannot reach the entrance through the narrow lanes near Jagdish Chowk; walk or take an auto for the last stretch.

5. Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort is approximately 3 hours from Udaipur via winding roads through the Aravalli Hills and is one of the most rewarding day excursions from the city. Its walls stretch over 36 kilometres, often promoted as the world's second-longest continuous fortification wall after the Great Wall of China.

The view from Badal Mahal at the top takes in rolling Aravalli ridgelines in every direction. A combined Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur Jain Temple circuit in a single day is possible with an early departure; the full circuit takes 10 to 12 hours.

6. Fateh Sagar Lake

Fateh Sagar Lake is a popular morning and evening stop in most Udaipur tour packages. Locals gather here for sunrise walks, cycling, and roadside chai. The lake promenade is one of the most relaxed evening spots in the city, with street food, ice cream stalls, and benches along the waterfront. A short boat ride on Fateh Sagar takes you to Nehru Garden, an island park in the middle of the lake.

Luxury vs Boutique Stays in Udaipur

Choosing the right accommodation is central to any Udaipur tour package. Whether you prefer an iconic heritage palace or an intimate boutique haveli on the waterfront, Udaipur has some of the finest stays in all of Rajasthan.

1. Taj Lake Palace

Built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II, the Taj Lake Palace sits in the middle of Lake Pichola and is the most iconic heritage hotel in Udaipur. Every room offers lake or palace views, and the sense of exclusivity is unmatched. Book at least 2 to 3 months in advance for winter travel.

2. Shiv Niwas Palace

Part of the City Palace Udaipur complex itself, Shiv Niwas Palace is one of the most historically significant heritage hotels in Udaipur. Its 17 decorated suites come with original furniture and royal portraits. The panorama from your room over the lake and Old City is genuinely extraordinary.

3. Jagat Niwas Palace

Located on Lal Ghat on the edge of Lake Pichola, this 17th-century haveli has been restored into a 27-room boutique hotel. Rajasthani interiors, hand-painted murals, and jharokha seating with lake views make it one of the most characterful boutique stays available in Udaipur tour packages.

4. Amet Haveli

A 350-year-old waterfront haveli at Chandpole, Amet Haveli, is ideal for travellers wanting a peaceful and romantic stay without the crowds that come with the larger palace hotels. The in-house Ambrai Restaurant, one of the best lakeside dining spots in Udaipur, draws evening crowds.

5. Udai Kothi

Udai Kothi in the Old City combines heritage styling with modern comforts, including a rooftop pool and spa overlooking the City Palace skyline. With more than 60 rooms, it offers the boutique experience at a slightly more accessible price point for mid-range Udaipur tour packages.

Things to Do on a Udaipur Trip

Here are the top things to do in Udaipur, recommended by Thrillophilia's destination experts with over a decade of experience after curating an itinerary for more than 11,000 satisfied travellers.

1. Morning Walk at Fateh Sagar Lake

Start your morning at Fateh Sagar Lake around sunrise, when locals come for walks, cycling, and roadside chai. The lake was built in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, and its promenade is one of the most unhurried stretches in the entire city, a place you will not find near the Old City at that hour.

2. Explore Jagdish Chowk and the Old City Lanes

Get lost around Jagdish Chowk rather than following a fixed route. The temple was built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Walk past its stone elephants, climb up to terrace cafes in the lanes behind it, and explore viewpoints that most Udaipur tour packages skip entirely.

3. Dharohar Folk Dance Show at Bagore-ki-Haveli

Attend the Dharohar Folk Dance Show at Bagore-ki-Haveli at 7 pm. The haveli sits on Gangaur Ghat facing Lake Pichola and has over 138 rooms of royal costumes and art. Arrive by 6:30 pm for good seating and watch Ghoomar and Kalbeliya performances in the inner courtyard.

4. Sunset Views from Ambrai Ghat

Watch the sunset from Ambrai Ghat rather than booking a boat ride. Standing opposite the City Palace with Lake Pichola between you and the palace walls, the light transition between 5 pm and 5:30 pm is quieter and more personal than any crowded viewpoint or group boat.

5. Ropeway Ride to Karni Mata Temple

Take the ropeway at Karni Mata Temple for aerial views of Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, and the City Palace complex all at once. The ride was built in 2008 and gives a perspective of Udaipur that no street-level sightseeing in any Udaipur tour package can replicate.

6. Heritage and Cultural Guided Walking Tour

Do the Heritage and Cultural Guided Walking Tour through the Old City, starting at Ghanta Ghar clock tower and moving through Bagore-ki-Haveli, Jagdish Temple, Gangaur Ghat, and Lal Ghat to Lake Pichola. The 2-hour walk brings together the architecture, ghats, and bazaars of Udaipur in a sequence that makes the city's layout easy to understand for the first time.

Best Restaurants to try in Udaipur

Taste the flavours of Udaipur through iconic dishes like Laal Maas, Dal Baati Churma, and traditional thalis while enjoying stunning views of Lake Pichola and the City Palace. As one of our verified travelers, Sameer Gada, who booked the Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur | A Royal Triad of Lakes, Desert & Forts package, specifically mentioned this in his review โ€œThe food recommendations were local and authentic. A very well-paced trip for anyone looking to see the real Rajasthan.โ€

1. Ambrai Restaurant

Situated directly on the waterline, Ambrai offers unobstructed views of Lake Pichola with the City Palace lit up across the water after sunset. The Badi Mahal section is best for a special lunch or dinner, while the Ananda Bar works well for early evening snacks and drinks. The signature dish to try here is the Laal Maas, a slow-cooked Rajasthani mutton preparation in fiery red chilli gravy that the kitchen has refined over years of lakeside service.

2. Upre 1559 AD

A rooftop restaurant with clear sightlines over Gangaur Ghat, Lake Pichola, City Palace Udaipur, and Bagore-ki-Haveli. The signature dishes to order here are the Laal Maas and Mutton Dhungar, both deeply rooted in Rajasthani cooking traditions and best paired with the rooftop views at dusk when the city lights begin to reflect over the lake.

3. Jagat Niwas Palace Restaurant

One of the quieter lakeside dining experiences in Udaipur, the Chandni open-air setting overlooks Lake Pichola and the Aravalli Hills. The signature dish to try is the Rajasthani thali, a full spread of traditional Mewar preparations served in the open air. consistently praised by Thrillophilia travellers as one of the most authentic thali experiences available in any Udaipur tour package.

4. Restaurant Harigarh

A vegetarian restaurant on the banks of Lake Pichola is well suited to a romantic dinner. The signature dish to try is the Dal Baati Churma, widely considered one of the best versions in Udaipur, with the hard wheat baati baked to a perfect crust and the churma sweetened just enough to balance the spiced dal. Also worth ordering are Ker Sangri, Mewari Gutta Curry, and Kadhi Pakora for a complete Rajasthani vegetarian meal.

Local Shopping Guide

Miniature Paintings

Miniature paintings are the most distinctive purchase you can make while exploring Udaipur tour packages. Artists work with natural pigments on silk or paper using fine brushes to depict royal processions and Krishna lore. Hathi Pol is the best place to watch artists at work. Prices range from INR 3,000 to INR 30,000 depending on the detail and size.

Pichwai and Phad Paintings

Pichwai paintings are temple backdrops linked to Nathdwara traditions; Phad paintings are narrative scrolls of folk legends. Both require careful handling during travel. Leave time in your Udaipur tour package itinerary to compare quality across shops before purchasing.

Textiles

Bandhani tie-dye and Batik prints are the most practical fabric purchases. Look for deeper colours and tighter knots in Bandhani work. Sadhna Emporium carries handcrafted textiles made by rural women artisans. Bada Bazaar Udaipur has a wider variety, though quality varies across stalls.

Jewellery and Metalwork

Udaipur jewellery centres on Polki, Kundan, and Meenakari designs. Silver jewellery is more reliable than gold for casual buyers. Shops near Ghantaghar have the widest range of metalwork pieces.

Practical Tips for a Seamless Udaipur Trip

  • Plan your Udaipur tour package between October and March for stable weather (15ยฐC to 30ยฐC) and full lakes. April to June brings lower prices, but the heat can exceed 40ยฐC.
  • Arrive by 9:30 am at City Palace, Udaipur and keep 2 to 3 hours for a proper visit before crowds and heat build.
  • Book the Mewar Express for an overnight train journey that saves one hotel night. Flights from Delhi or Mumbai take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Avoid cars inside the Old City. The lanes near the City Palace are narrow; parking violations can lead to vehicles being seized. Autos and scooters are the most practical means of transport for daily movement.
  • Use government parking near the City Palace (approximately INR 40 for three hours) if you must drive.
  • Book heritage hotels in Udaipur at least two months in advance during winter and ask for upper floors for clearer lake views.
  • Carry a valid ID for e-Visitor registration, required for hotels and homestays across the city.
  • Visit Saheliyon-ki-Bari between 8 am and 9 am before group tours arrive.
  • For Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace, go early in the evening to avoid long queues for the Karni Mata Ropeway.

Why Choose Thrillophilia for Your Udaipur Tour

Choosing Thrillophilia for your Udaipur tour package means working with a team that checks properties on the ground rather than relying only on hotel descriptions. Our local team verifies actual room views across Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar and confirms access roads before assigning stays. This avoids the common issue of cars being unable to reach a hotel entrance in the Old City.

Our sunset boat rides on Lake Pichola are pre-booked in the 5 pm to 5:30 pm window. These slots fill quickly between October and February; if you do not secure one in advance, you may miss the light transition that defines the experience.

For Udaipur honeymoon packages, Thrillophiliaโ€™s destination experts include special dinners, places and quieter spaces like Lal Ghat and focus on private arrangements rather than crowded group spots. For families, we balance walking zones with vehicle access and schedule City Palace Udaipur entry to reduce afternoon fatigue, especially with children.

Travel Safety and Updates for Udaipur (June 2026)

  • Lake levels fluctuate seasonally: Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake depend heavily on rainfall and can drop before the monsoon, affecting boat rides and views.
  • Old City traffic restrictions: Areas around Jagdish Chowk and Ghantaghar have strict no-parking rules; four-wheelers face difficulty in narrow lanes.
  • Festival day route changes: Routes like Rang Niwas to Jagdish Chowk often close during festivals, with one-way systems via Chandpol and Hathipol; tourist buses are restricted to outside city limits.
  • Mewar Festival brings heavy crowds near Gangaur Ghat; Shilpgram Utsav (December 21 to 30) sees consistent footfall at all hours.
  • Hotels must register guests on the e-Visitor portal with a valid ID. Heatwave alerts in June may affect daytime sightseeing plans.

The trip started with me meeting up the guide assigned to me. He briefly gave me the necessary instructions to start the trek. It was pretty exciting. He was well trained and knew stories about the place which made the trip interesting. The scenery ahead of us was splendid. If you're an animal lover, you'll totally like the trip. The fortified wall was huge. I relaxed for sometime in the warm sunlight. They provided refreshments too. It was a nice break from my mundane schedule. Thanks to Thrillophilia!

Udaipur was and is the best city in Rajasthan. I have visited Udaipur several times but first time during winter. It was a superb experience. Early morning and nights made the city look so fresh and beautiful. We did stay in a good hotel. Sightseeing was the main event. I liked it so much Boating was okay. It was a chance to taste some special food items of Udaipur. Guide was so simple yet very kind. He helped us know the culture of the city in detail. He helped us find good shopping centres and good restaurants. It was an incredible experience overall. Thank you.

Though this was my first time trekking, I have heard about my friends experiences with Thrillophilia before, so I decided to book the trek. I had the luck to get Jithu as my guide, and he was super knowledgeable with the facts about Kumbhalgarh Ranakpur and also seemed to really know his way around. There were enough break stops and I never go tired throughout the trek

The trip was very well planned, we covered all the touristy spots, it was a packed itinerary but never felt exhausting. Thrillophilia team was reachable throughout the trip. Just one small feedback: In group trips, try to club similar age groups together, maybe have an age range like (18-40) and similar.
