Hac Sa (Black Sand) Beach

Hac Sa literally translates to Black Sand beach. This beach is amongst the most beautiful beaches in the world. Travellers from around the world visit this beach to see the naturally black colored sands, a rarity around the world. The black-grey sands set against the blue waters and lush green cliffs surrounding it are a breathtaking sight. 

The colors of the sands change their hues with the time of the day. Especially at the time of sunrise and set, the black sands make the place look even more magnificent. 


Location: The beach is located on the southeast side of Coloane Island. 


Timings: The best time to visit the Hac Sa Beach is either during early morning or at dusk to see the sunset or sunrise. October to December are the best months to visit beaches in Macau due to cooler climate and low humidity. 


Activities: Due to its calm waters, the beaches in Macau provide an ideal space for swimmers. There is a huge swimming pool near the end of the beachfront that is open for the public between the months of May-October. Travellers can hire jet skis and boats to cruise in the waters. 

There are barbeque pits on the beach, which keep tourists engaged for a long time. Near the beach is the Hac Sa Sports & Recreation Park where tourists can indulge in tennis, golf, and other sports.

Distance from City Centre: Beaches in Macau are very approachable from the main city centre of Macau. Hac Sa Beach is located around 4.6 kilometres away from Macau. It will take 10 minutes by taxi and around 45 minutes if you take a bus. 


Places to Eat: Beaches in Macau are famous for the wonderful eating options serving international cuisines. The most popular restaurant around Hac Sa Beach is Fernando’s. It is popular for its delectable Portuguese, Mediterranean, and European cuisines. Cheoc Van Beach is a pristine beach with crystal white sands, blue waters, and a stunning landscape. It is framed within lush green-forested hills, palm trees on the beach, and clear blue skies. Being one of the less crowded of Macau beaches; it offers tourists some quiet time that they can spend listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean. 

The beach offers beautiful views of the sunrise and sunset. 


Location: The beach is located on the southeast side of Coloane Island.


Timings: The beaches in Macau are accessible at all times all year around. October till December are considered the best months due to low humidity and cooler weather. 


Activities: This beach is a holiday destination in itself. There is a large Cheoc Van swimming pool located adjacent to the bay of the beach. This outdoor pool, surrounded by lush greenery, is open to the public from May till October.  In case, you don’t want to swim, you can lounge in the beach chairs. The beach is close to Coloane Hiking Trail and the Giant Panda Park Trail that is a cluster of trails that take you deep into the rainforests. 

Hikers can also walk to the Coloane Village, which is a quaint and charming old-fashioned village, to see the rustic village life of the local people. 

Distance from City Centre: Macau Beaches are very easy to reach from the Macau City Centre. The beach is around 3.7 kilometres from Macau. It takes around 15 minutes by taxi and 1.15 hours by bus to reach. 


Places to Eat: La Gondola is one of the best places to eat near the beach. This beachfront restaurant serves delicious Italian food like wood-fired oven pizzas.
