Ulun Danu Batur Temple

Pura Ulun Danu Batur, is a temple dedicated to the prime source of water. It is settled in the spiritually pure area which is called Batur in Balinese Language. Here ‘Pura’ means ‘temple’, ‘Ulun’ means ‘head source’, ‘Danu’ is for ‘water’ and ‘Batur’ is the name of the mount and the village which means ‘spiritually clean'.Located on the island of Bali in Indonesia, Pura Ulun Danu Batur is a marvellous example of Balinese style of architecture.

Dating back to the 17th century, the temple is facing the north of the islands. You can find a total of nine different temples in the compound dedicated to various significant Gods and Goddesses.As it is believed to be the reason for harmony on the island, it has gained a known position in the list of the most important temples in Bali.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Goddess of the Lake Batur, Dewi Danu. Almost 300 shrines are present on the premises, which are believed to be the foundation of Bali’s society and culture.This beautiful piece of excellence is settled in the foot caldera of Mount Batur in the village of Kintamani. Due to its location, it was submerged in the lava in a volcanic eruption of the year 1926.

3. Make sure to try Balinese food from the local shops in the village as they prepare the most authentic cuisines out of the freshest an organic harvest.

4. Backdrops of the Mount Batur are very famous for pre-wedding photography, do not miss to capture some portraits of yours in that background.

5. Make sure to carry money as the entry to the temple will cost you 35,000 IDR.

6. You must bring your own sarong otherwise you will have to rent one from there.

7. You need to take care while renting the sarong as some shopkeepers might straightaway sell you the sarong.

8. Also, please dress modestly which can cover your legs and shoulders.

9. Make sure to be barefoot inside the temple as it is a way to pay respect to the culture.

Ulun Batur Temple is situated at a distance of 76.4 KM which would take around 2 hours to cover. The easier way to commute this distance is by hiring a taxi from the outside of the airport to the temple. This will be the most comfortable and fast way to transverse. However, you can also rent a bike or a car from there to drive own your own.

Although this might be a little expensive but it is the best possible way to cover this distance as you can take pit stops at various interesting places according to yourself.
