Best Ladakh Tour Packages for Family

Reviewed by Thrillophilia Ladakh Operations Team

Updated as of June 2026

Ladakh family tour packages start from INR 19,000 per person for a 5-day trip and go up to INR 38,000 per person for a 12-day itinerary. These packages cover destinations including Leh, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Tso.

Ladakh works as a family destination as it has fewer crowds, no traffic, and no noise. However, its altitude changes how every itinerary is built. The first two days of any Ladakh family package are rest days in Leh at 3,500 metres. This is not optional. It is how every safe family trip here begins.

Our packages cover the three-circuit family route: Leh for acclimatisation, Nubra Valley for the camel dunes and lower altitude comfort, and Pangong Lake for the colour-shifting water that most families say is the trip's standout moment. Pangong stays are available on 6-night and 7-night packages. On shorter durations, a day-trip to Pangong can be added for an extra charge.

Thrillophilia has served 8,000+ verified travellers with Ladakh family tour packages, rated 4.5 stars across 8,000+ reviews. Every family tour to Ladakh is run with altitude-paced itineraries, ILP-handled logistics, and oxygen-equipped vehicles on all high-pass routes.

Permits Required on a Ladakh family tour package

Indian tourists no longer need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit restricted areas in Ladakh. As of 2026, the ILP system has been replaced by the Environment and Development Fee (EDF). This applies to Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri, Khardung La, Chang La, Batalik, Turtuk, and Dah-Hanu.

EDF fee structure for Indian tourists (2026):

  • Environment Fee: INR 400 per person, one-time per visit
  • Red Cross Fund: INR 50 per person, one-time
  • Wildlife Protection Fee: INR 20 per person per day for restricted wildlife areas
  • Processing fee: INR 150 per permit (waived if applying at the DC Office in Leh)

Total for a 7-day family tour to ladakh: approximately INR 590 per person

For a family of 4, total EDF cost works out to approximately INR 2,360 for a 7-day trip.

Best Time to Visit

If you’re booking a Ladakh family tour package in the next holiday season, you should know the best time to enjoy the destination rather than just rushing through crowded places.

Summer (June–July)

  • Temperature: 8°C–25°C
  • Best For: Families and first-time visitors
  • Highlights: All major passes open, clear skies, Pangong and Nubra fully accessible, ideal escape from the mainland monsoon
  • Keep in Mind: Peak season with higher prices—book 2–3 months in advance and check road conditions for occasional landslides.

Late Summer (August)

  • Temperature: 10°C–24°C
  • Best For: Families with older children
  • Highlights: Pleasant weather with fewer crowds
  • Keep in Mind: School calendars may limit travel

Winter & Spring (October–May)

  • Temperature: -15°C to 10°C
  • Best For: Experienced winter travellers
  • Highlights: Snow-covered landscapes and fewer tourists
  • Keep in Mind: Major passes close, road access is limited, and many camps remain shut

Best Places to Visit

Do not miss these places to visit in Ladakh if you’re booking a Leh Ladakh family tour package.

Shanti Stupa, Leh (3,566 metres)

A white-domed Buddhist monument built in 1991, located on a hill above Leh town. The climb is short and gradual, making it the right Day 2 walk for families still acclimatising. Views over Leh town are wide and clear on most mornings.

Thiksey Monastery, Leh (3,500 metres)

A 12-storey monastery complex on the Leh-Manali highway, housing a 15-metre Maitreya Buddha statue inside the Maitreya Temple. One of the most visually engaging stops for children on the Leh circuit.

Magnetic Hill, Leh (approximately 3,800 metres)

An optical illusion on the Leh-Kargil highway where vehicles appear to roll uphill on their own. A quick 20 to 30-minute stop that works well for children.

Nubra Valley (3,048 metres)

A family trip to Leh Ladakh is incomplete without witnessing the beauty of Nubra valley. Located 150 kilometres from Leh via Khardung La, Nubra is where the Siachen and Shyok rivers meet. Sand dunes, rose and lavender fields in summer, and a lower altitude than Leh make this the most physically comfortable overnight stop on the family circuit.

Diskit Gompa, Nubra Valley

One of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh, set above the Shyok River. A large Maitreya Buddha statue faces the valley and is visible from a distance. The walk up is short and manageable for children aged 6 and above.

Pangong Lake (4,350 metres)

A high-altitude lake where the water shifts colour across the day from blue to green to grey. The drive from Leh via the Shyok route takes approximately 5 hours.

Things to Do on a Ladakh Family tour Packages

Bactrian Camel Safari at Hunder, Nubra Valley

The double-humped Bactrian camels at Hunder sand dunes are one of the most distinctive experiences on any Ladakh family trip. The ride covers the dune stretch and lasts 15 to 25 minutes. Most children rate this as the trip highlight.

INR 300 to INR 500 per adult. Approximately INR 200 per child

Grade 1 to 2 River Rafting on the Indus

The stretch between Spituk and Nimu on the Indus River runs at Grade 1 to 2 rapids. Views of the Ladakhi landscape from the water are strong. This is the only rafting stretch suitable for families on a Ladakh trip.

INR 600 to INR 1,000 per person

Stargazing at Lamayuru

Lamayuru, on the Srinagar-Leh highway, offers some of the clearest night skies in India. No equipment is needed. Families on the 8-night itinerary can include this as a Sham Valley extension stop.

No direct cost. Lamayuru Monastery entry is approximately INR 30 to INR 50 per person

Camping at Nubra Valley

The best of ladakh family trip is the overnight camps at Nubra involve a bonfire, open skies, and temperatures comfortable enough for children to sleep well. At 3,048 metres, Nubra is the most comfortable overnight altitude on the trip outside of Leh.

INR 1,500 to INR 3,500 per person per night, depending on camp tier. Included in select packages

Staying in Nubra Valley is one of the most beautiful experiences. One of our travelers Rohit Singh, from Delhi, booked the package Leh Ladakh Group Tour | FREE Camp Stay and said, “Leh-Ladakh delivered everything I had been dreaming about - Pangong Lake, Khardung La, Nubra Valley. The roads are tough, but every single kilometre is worth it for views that simply don't exist anywhere else.

Hemis Festival Attendance, Leh

The Hemis Festival takes place at Hemis Monastery in June each year. Mask dances by Buddhist monks, traditional music, and local costumes make this a rare cultural experience for children. The 2026 dates fall in June. Verify exact dates closer to travel.

Monastery entry approximately INR 100 per person. Festival attendance is free

Leh Market Walk and Local Shopping

Leh Bazaar runs along the main market street and carries Ladakhi handicrafts, pashmina products, dry fruits, and local spices. An evening

walk here works well on Day 2 or Day 8 of the itinerary.

Browsing is free. Budget INR 500 to INR 3,000 per family for shopping
