How do I reach Joshimath?

Joshimath is accessible by air, rail and road. We will take you all the three options.

By air: The closest airport to Joshimath is the Jolly Grant Airport that is located 270 km from here. When you travel by air, you can reach this airport which is located in Dehradun. After you reach here you can travel to the town of Joshimath which will take approximately 6 hours to reach.

By Train: The closest railway station to Joshimath is Rishikesh which is a close to 250 km away from here. You can reach Rishikesh and then cover the remaining distance by road

By road: You can start your journey from Delhi, but we suggest you drive through Rishikesh. Rishikesh has a good network of roads and public transport buses which will ease your pain of looking for options. You can also reach Joshimath from other destinations like Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Srinagar too.

What is the best time to visit Joshimath?

We believe April to November is the best time to visit the holy town. Winters are chilling cold a witness’s heavy snowfall. Monsoon season too is synonymous with heavy rainfall and we suggest you don’t opt for this time as there have been many cases of landslides reported.

Summers are pleasant and a little cold. So, if you want to explore the town with its true blue natural beauty, the time between April and November is the best time.

What you will like in Joshimath?

Apart from the essence of the town which you will love, there are many things you can explore here which will make you fall in love with the winter beauty. 

1. Exploring the town is incomplete without a temple visit to all the popular temples especially Narsimha. 

2. A visit to Nanda Devi national park is a must-include for those who love to explore flora and fauna amidst the beauty of nature.

3. For adventure pursuers, skiing and trekking is very popular here and you will love the town for it.

4. You will also like hopping on Asia’s longest cable car ride that covers a distance of about 4 km.

5. For those who seek peace in this dreamy destination, camping also is something you will like.

Any travel tips for visiting Joshimath?

1. If you intend to visit here during monsoon, then we recommend you to download the best weather app to keep updating yourself about the weather conditions. Apart from this, we recommend you to stay in touch with your tour operator to get a check every little time to be sure to visit here.

2. If you come here during winters you will be able to witness the deity from Badrinath brought here. This will be an experience of a lifetime.

3. When you are planning to visit here in peak season, we suggest you complete all your bookings much in advance to avoid any difficulty in the future.

Is Joshimath safe for solo female travellers?

Joshimath is safe for solo female travellers. It is a small and closely-knit town and not very risky. We only suggest that all rules be duly followed and women do not travel alone at night, especially while coming from Rishikesh or Dehradun. We also suggest you come from Rishikesh.

What is the ideal duration for a holiday in Joshimath?

There are different purposes of any trip you take and even in the case of Joshimath the number of days you plan here depends on the purpose of the trip. If you are here on a pilgrim tour then 2 nights and one day will suffice you need. If you plan to visit the town completely and explore the temples and beautiful places then 3 nights and 4 days trip will suffice.

For camping and other adventure activities too we recommend you to take a 3 nights and 4-day duration in hand. So on an average, a three to a 4-day trip is enough to explore the town holistically.

How far is Auli from Joshimath?

Auli is a mere 16 km drive from Joshimath. There are private as well as state transport buses that regularly travel to and fro the town to Auli.  There are also many cabs and taxis that frequent the two places and their frequency are really good.

How far is Joshimath from Rishikesh?

Rishikesh is one of the closest places from Joshimath. They are separated by about 254 km and it takes approx  8.5 hours to reach Joshimath from Rishikesh. It is well-connected and there is no dearth of public transport from Rishikesh to reach here.
