Believed to be founded in the 17th century, Gurdaspur is named after Guriya Ji. It is tucked in the middle of Ravi and Sutlej rivers and is a beautiful example of Punjabi culture. The popular city is a stunning place to witness the exuberance of Punjab by seeing its beautiful gurudwaras, dancing to the thumping beats of bhangra, wearing the traditional pagri (turban) and gorge on the scrumptious Punjabi delights.

There are many places of religious prominence to visit here like Gurudwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Dera Baba Nanak, Thada Sahib and SarjI Sahib. It also has many unique places to catch your interest like Kabootari Darwaza and Fish Park.

One popular event here is the annual fair which is a grand celebration of the marriage of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru. Other prominent festivals which can be enjoyed here are Baisakhi, Lohri, Babehali’sChhinjh (wrestling) Mela and Shivratri fair.

The climate of Gurdaspur is characterised by hot summers, humid and cool monsoons and chilly winters. The most suitable time to visit the city is from the month of October to March. The average temperature in Gurdaspur ranges between 6 to 20 degrees Celsius during this time.
