How Does a Hot Air Balloon Work?

While the passenger hot air balloons use gas such as propane or a similiar gas which renders it lighter, those used for research purpose use gases such as Hydrogen and Helium that are lighter than air. Both the air balloons have envelops which are made of polyester or heat-resistant nylon and grows to over 24 meters tall when filled with gas.
It is essential for the envelop to be large enough to enable sufficient amount of air to be trust upwards.Before the flight the envelop is arranged on the ground with cold air partially filled in it. Then burners are attached below the envelop and heat starts increasing the air temperature, raising the envelop creating buoyancy.

On an average, a commercial hot air ballon can carry around seven people and a pilot. Some of the private air balloons which are smaller in size can carry only upto two passengers. Also there are larger ones that can carry a group of around thirty people.
