ZSL London Zoo Overview

London Zoo is the world’s oldest scientific zoo that was intended to be used as a collection for scientific study and research. The zoo features a plethora of wildlife and aquatic creatures and boasts of housing a huge multitude of animals in the UK with over 756 distinct species. It is a haven for endangered species and provides an exclusive environment to learn from and about animals.

London Zoo, also known as London Zoological Gardens or Regent’s Zoo, is the world's oldest scientific zoo, founded in 1828 for scientific study and later transformed in 1847. Managed by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), it's located on the northern edge of Regent's Park. Explore this historic zoo as part of our Europe trip, discovering its pioneering attractions like the first-ever reptile house, insect house, aquarium, and children’s zoo.

The London Zoo is split into several different zones, each of which houses an array of wild creatures in their natural habitats. Visit the Land of Lions zone to spot asiatic lions and langur monkeys in the Gir Forest backdrop while you can witness species belonging to Africa in the exclusive Into Africa zone. The zoo also facilitates special scheduled events throughout the day like Feed the Gorillas, Friendly Spider Programme, Giraffe Keeper Experience and Meet the Penguins. The zookeepers give you tips about how to feed and interact with the animals and grant you the privilege of being the zookeeper for the day.

The ZSL Zoo can be a really fun visit with the family. The exhibits here are really well maintained and clean, and the animals are easy to observe. We especially enjoyed the tiger exhibit, with its new baby tiger.
