Sala de los Reyes

The original Sala de Los Reyes was built in the 14th century during the reign of the Nasrid Dynasty in Granada. It is one of the most important rooms in the Royal Palace of Granada as it is here where justice was served, giving it the name Justice Hall (Sala de la Justicia) and Court (Tribunal) from the 18th century. It is noted for its incredible architecture, which combines elements of Moorish, Mudéjar, and Renaissance styles.

The most striking feature of the room is the grand painting on the central dome consisting of 10 men, generally referred to as the first 10 rulers of the then-ruling dynasty, the Nasrid dynasty. The famous paintings are on three ellipse-shaped wooden domes and wrapped in leather. The middle image represents the first ten kings of the Nasrid dynasty.

The sideways vaults depict scenes of chivalry and romantic settings, telling tales or experiences of the Muslim kings. In spite of this, they are clearly Christian paintings, which is evident because of the clumsier and less detailed drawings of Muslim sets in comparison with the Spanish scenes.
