Royal Palace of Turin Overview

Northern Italy's Turin is home to the Royal Palace of Savoy, a historic palace dating back to the early 19th century. After its initial construction in the 16th century, Christine Marie of France commissioned the Baroque architect Filippo Juvarra to redesign the building for a more contemporary look in the 17th century.

The Royal Museums can be found at the Royal Palace of Turin (Palazzo Reale di Torino), one of the most lavish and extravagant historic things to see in Turin. A conventional and representative model of a royal palace from the 16th century, it is a window onto Turin's illustrious past and a UNESCO World Heritage Site right in the middle of the city's historic district. Even though it is now a museum complex, the Royal Palace in Turin served as the Savoys' primary residence for over two centuries. Visit the 16th to 17th century historical Royal Palace with our Europe travel.

There have been multiple expansions to it over the years. Outstanding example of European architectural history, it was designed by a number of the best architects of the day. The Holy Shroud of Jesus, which is kept in the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, is probably the most well-known addition to the palace. The Royal Armory is another well-known section of the castle.
