The Monument to the Restorers stands on the mosaic-paved area in the centre of the square. It is a 30-meter-tall obelisk designed by António Tomás da Fonseca in 1886. The names and the dates of the battles fought are carved on it as part of the Portuguese Restoration War. Witness the 4 iconic statues on each side of the Monument to the Restorers. There is a Victory statue on the northern face and an Independence statue is on the southern face. There are stone panoplies on the western and eastern faces.

The statue showcases a man with wings, covered in a flag, holding the broken chains of a foreign nation. The Victory statue is on the northern face of the Obelisk, designed by Simões de Almeida. The statue displays a traditionally attired woman with wings carrying a wreath of laurel in one hand and a palm in the other.
