Palacio del Generalife Granada

The history of the Generalife spans over 700 years, from its construction in the 14th century to its present-day role as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Palacio del Generalife was built as a summer palace for the Moorish rulers of the Alhambra.

It is located on the hillside just below the main complex of the Alhambra and includes a series of gardens and courtyards. The name Generalife comes from the Arabic for "Garden of the architect". This is perhaps because the palace was originally built as a pleasure garden, where the Moorish rulers could enjoy the cooling breezes and fragrant flowers.

Over time, the Palacio del Generalife became more than just a pleasure garden. It was also used as a place where political decisions were made, and where ambassadors from other countries were received. There are many things to see at the Generalife, including its beautifully landscaped gardens, its Roman baths, Renaissance Palace, and Nasrid Palace.
