Overbury's Folly is a seaside park and tower located less than a kilometre from the bustling town of Thalassery on Kerala's Malabar Coast. It is named after E.N. Overbury, a British judge in the 1870s who first envisioned it as a cliffside retreat. This spot is known for offering some of the most panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. Although Overbury never completed the project, the site became known as "Overbury's Folly." It serves as a testament to its unfinished promise turned local treasure.
The Folly features a multi-level recreational park that slopes from the sub-collector's bungalow down to the sea. It ends at the rocky outcrops that offer unobstructed ocean vistas. The park's architecture showcases a blend of Gothic and Indian design elements, reflecting the cultural fusion of its era. Renovated to serve as a public space, it now includes a watchtower, a coffee shop, and various sitting areas. Today, it is a popular venue for both tourists and locals looking to enjoy a serene sunset by the sea.
