About Mutrah Fort

Built by the Portugese in the mid 16th century, the Mutrah Fort dominates the eastern end of the Muscat harbor. Initially built as a military fortification, the Fort still preserves some of its original war structures and weapons, making it one of the most interesting places to visit in Muscat for military biffs.

The trek to the Fort is an extremely scenic one, making it a popular spot for casual hikers as well.
