About Mount Batur

One of the finest places to visit for nature lovers in Bali is definitely Mount Batur. Located to the north-west of Mount Agung, Mount Batur is also a very popular trek spot which is among the few active volcanoes in Bali that last erupted in 2000. It was formed by a massive volcanic eruption that happened around 28,000 years ago which resulted in many beautiful craters around Mount Batur.

Around the monsoon season the top of Mount Batur appears to be floating in a sea of clouds, this view leaves the visitors completely awestruck. People set out to complete the 1.5 to 2 hours trek before dawn in order to be able to admire the famous sunrise views from the top.

From the top of Mount Batur, one can view the best sunrise and sunset along with a small crater which is famous among tourists. The picturesque trek of Mount Batur is of moderate level and most suitable for beginners and intermediate trekkers.

In 2012, UNESCO declared Mount Batur Caldera (the collapsed section of the top) as a part of their Global Geoparks Network program in which they preserve and protect the important geological peaks around the world.

The logistics were well planned and the trek guide was very good. Although there was some fog at the top, we caught some great glimpses of the sunrise, and the view from the top was stunning.
