What is the Best Time to Visit Meghalaya
The best time to visit Meghalaya depends on what you want to see and do. For comfortable sightseeing, clearer skies, trekking and exploring places such as Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki and Mawlynnong, October to April is generally the most suitable period. If your idea of Meghalaya is roaring waterfalls, mist-covered hills and intensely green landscapes, the monsoon months from May to September offer a very different experience.
There is no single best month to visit Meghalaya for every traveller. The state experiences distinct seasonal changes, and the same destination can look completely different in summer, monsoon and winter. Meghalaya Tourism describes March and April as spring, May to September as the monsoon period, October and November as post-monsoon and November to February as winter.
For most first-time visitors, October to April is the easiest window to plan, particularly if you want to combine sightseeing with outdoor activities. However, travellers who specifically want to experience Meghalaya's famous monsoon waterfalls should consider June to September and be prepared for rain, slippery trails and changes to road journeys.
