Wasserkirche Overview

Among the most renowned places to visit in Zurich is the Wasserkirche which translates to ‘Water Church’, owing to it being built on an island. Designed in Gothic style, the construction of the structure was originally started in the 10th century and completion of work happened towards the end of the 15th century.

The Wasserkirche stands as a testament to Zurich's rich history, with its architectural grandeur and island setting offering a unique glimpse into the city's medieval past. Explore this iconic landmark, where every stone tells a story of centuries gone by, making it a must-visit destination with your Switzerland trip package.

It was here that Zurich’s popular saints were executed by the Romans and it quickly became the temple of many idol worshippers. Later transformed into a warehouse and a public library to discourage anyone from preaching about the saints, the venue was renovated in 1942 and the church is now used for religious and cultural purposes.
