About Vrata od Ploca

The Vrata Od Placa or The Placa Gate is the eastern entrance of the Old town of Dubrovnik. This majestic structure is built like the other entrance gates of the city, divided into two parts - outer and inner. The gates are then attached to a stone bridge over a moat and a wooden drawbridge. The outer gate of this eastern entrance was built in the 15th century by Simon Della Cava over a single arched bridge that was constructed 1 year before the gate.

The inner gate features elements of the Romanesque style of architecture and additionally also includes the figure of St. Vlah over its majestic structure. This inner door was further broken wide during the 19th century and set into the shape visitors see today. The gate leads to the Revelin fortress, another one of the best places in Dubrovnik for history enthusiasts.
