The Shard Overview

The Shard is one of London's iconic skyscrapers, commonly referred to as the Shard of Glass (after which it is named) and Shard London Bridge. It is regarded as the second tallest free-standing structure or building in the United Kingdom. It forms a centerpiece of the Shard quarter on the south side located upon the River Thames.

An Italian architect, Renzo Piano, designed the Shard London. The height of the Shard is about 1016 ft and is regarded as the seventh-tallest building in the whole of Europe. If you're considering Europe packages, make sure to include a visit to the Shard in your itinerary to experience its breathtaking views. It was inaugurated on 5th July 2012 and was opened to the public on 1st February 2013. The Shard is a 72-storey skyscraper which has about 72 habitable floors, a viewing gallery, and an open-air observation deck. It is located close to other famous landmarks of London, such as Southwark Cathedral, The Clink Museum, and Borough Market.

Shard London also houses the famous 5-star hotel, Shangri La, famous for its fine dining. From the top point of the Shard, one can have a clear view of London city up to 40 miles. In the clear weather, one can have a 360° clear view of St. Paul's Cathedral, Big Ben and many more. The tourists mainly visit this point to get the fresh breeze experience. The Shard is designed to be environmentally friendly. The materials used for its construction are 95% recyclable and have triple-glazed windows which act as sun-shielding UV protective glass, making it extremely energy efficient.

Had to walk so much to reach the place but once we reached on the top, the view was worth all the trouble. The ticket redemption process was also good. We were very tired and not having any problem in entering made us very happy. Thank you.
