Overview

Bhopal, the city of lakes, also happens to be a destination rich in traditional and cultural history. Lined with a number of attractions that date back centuries and have a story to tell each, Bhopal is also the home to the famous Saru Maru Caves. This trek takes you to these cave formations which also have a waterfall nearby them. Trek deep into the heart of the Satpura, get drenched in the serene waterfall and live life to the fullest.


Factual information:
Saru Maru Caves are a famous attraction featuring the archaeological site of an ancient monastic complex and Buddhist caves. The site contains a number of stupas as well as natural caves for monks. In the caves, many Buddhist graffitis have been found along with two inscriptions of Ashoka the Great in Brahmi script carved in stone 2200 years ago when he visited this site himself. 
Surrounded by a dense jungle and a diverse wildlife enriched location, the place is home to various rare migratory birds, all of which combined makes it a true trekkers paradise.

Activity:
The trek that passes through the dense forests to reach the cave formations of Saru Maru is scenic in all manners and treats you to vistas that are surreal. The greenery and the wildlife that welcomes you here is breathtaking, and the presence of the many rare migratory birds just adds its own charm to the whole setting. You will be seeing the amazing ancient stupas and the serene waterfall near the caves that are worth capturing in your pictures. 

How to Reach?
The caves are located near the small village of Pangoraria in the Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh. From the village itself, the caves are located at a distance of 6 kms by foot, and then the waterfall from there is located some 10 kms from the Saru Maru Caves. This package includes transport to and from Bhopal for the trek.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Trek to Saru Maru Caves

    7:30 AM: Reach the pickup location in Bhopal

    8 AM: Start the journey to the location.

    8:15- 30 AM: You will be stopping for breakfast.

    9:30 AM: Reach the destination and get a small briefing about the activity.

    9:45 AM: Guided trek of the Saru-Maru Caves will begin. Marvel at the rock edicts and stupas found here, which are still subjects of research for archaeologists and research students. On the way, you’ll find the beautiful view of the Ratapani sanctuary as you will cross several hills. There are different photography points from where you can capture the mesmerizing beauty of the whole forest.

    12:15 PM: You will reach the waterfall and take rest there.

    12:30 PM: Lunch will be served.

    1:30 PM: Trek back to the Saru-Maru caves on the way taking photos of the Shiv Mandir situated there.

    4:00 PM: Reach the beginning point of the trek & continue the journey back to Bhopal
