Minkiani Pass, located in the Western section of Dhauladhar Himalaya is a famous trek route for adventure seekers as the location offers a great scope of exploring peaks as well as capturing natural scenic beauty. The Minkiani Pass trek route lets travellers enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of innumerable streams, green landscapes, dense jungles along with rich flora and fauna culture, and gather some ever-lasting memories from a great trekking experience.

Minkiani Pass Trek includes comfortable accommodation in tents on a double/triple sharing basis. Sleeping tents along with sleeping bags & sleeping mats are also included in the package in order to render the utmost comfort. The package provides a cooperative cook and kitchen helper to enhance your comfortable stay. Vegetarian Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner along with Tea/Coffee will be served during the trek and stay.

Permissions/Passes/Permit:There are required entry fees at a certain checkpoint, permit for trek and obligatory forest camping trip charges in the region for the entire length of a trek. We have got you covered, it is included in the package. 

How to Reach:

The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport at Dharamshala about 20 km away. The starting point is the epicentre of McLeodganj Town which is surrounded by most of the Hotels, it can easily be reached through convenient public and private transportation.

Minkiani Pass Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Day 1 - Arrival in McLeodganj
  • Arrival in McLeodganj
  • Proceed to the guest house/public Rest Room to freshen up.
  • After enjoying refreshments, begin this Minkiani Pass Trek by heading to Kareri village: The easy trail will take you through dense forests of pine.
  • Have your packed lunch on the trail with a little rest.
  • This approximately 5-hour long walk will take you past many small villages, where you can learn about the life of the locals. Reach the campsite.
  • Enjoy Dinner at the campsite.
  • Overnight Stay in Camps in kareri Village.
Day 2
Day 2 - Kareri Village to Kareri Lake (12 km/9625 ft.)
  • Early morning breakfast and move from Kareri Village to Kareri Lake
  • Beginning from kareri Village, the venture first takes you on a narrow path between lush mountains and a narrow gorge. You will come across diverse flora of the region on the way.
  • As you continue to gain height, the thick vegetation will become less dense. Later, you will be walking on a rocky trail, and then along a river. Soon, all the deciduous vegetation will disappear, and only firs and spruces will be visible. Have packed lunch and prepare for a nice picnic, connecting the past memories and healthy fun talks.
  • The 4-hour trek will lead you to a pleasing meadow, from where you will be able to see Baleni Pass, Minkiani Pass and a valley below.
  • Have sumptuous dinner at the campsite.
  • This will be your camping ground for the night.
Day 3
Day 3 - Kareri Lake – Minkiani Pass – Kareri Lake (9.5 km/13,943 ft.)
  • Have enough and healthy breakfast today
  • The toughest section of the Minkiani Pass Trek in McLeodganj begins, taking you to the summit of Minkiani Pass at an altitude of around 14000 feet.
  • Trek for about 4.5 km to reach the pass, and the same while coming back. The views of the surrounding mountains will definitely be amazing from the top.
  • Have an amazing Dinner at the campsite.
  • Indulge in a photoshoot before beginning your trek back to the campsite near Kareri Lake, where you will stay for the night.
Day 4
Day 4 - Kareri Lake to Kareri Village to McLeodganj
  • Begin your walk from Kareri Lake, you will be walking along a gushing river.
  • As you reach a lower altitude, the thick vegetation will soon reappear, and you will see tall trees of deodar and pine.
  • After reaching Kareri village, board a Jeep and drive your way to McLeodganj, where this Minkiani Pass and Kareri Lake Trek ends.
Day 5
Day 4 - Kareri Lake to Kareri Village to McLeodganj
  • Begin your walk from Kareri Lake, you will be walking along a gushing river.
  • As you reach a lower altitude, the thick vegetation will soon reappear, and you will see tall trees of deodar and pine.
  • After reaching Kareri village, board a Jeep and drive your way to McLeodganj, where this Minkiani Pass and Kareri Lake Trek ends.

Know Before You Go for Minkiani Pass Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travelers littering may be fined.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
  • In case, the trek needs to be canceled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government are to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of masks is recommended.
  • Please provide a valid ID at the time of check-in.
  • Professional guide(s) are available to ensure high safety and more information and personal attention which are necessary to appreciate a trek.
  • The exact location will be shared with you post-booking.
  • Neat and clean vehicle for the journey with experienced drivers especially for hilly terrains available.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.
  • Mobile & laptop charging points may/may not be available on campsites at a common point.
  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the Minkiani Pass Trek.
  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for trek.
