The lake is considered to be of religious significance to the local people; residents of Mana village throw the ashes of the dead in the lake. Sequestering amidst the imposing ranges of the Garhwal region, this green triangular lake offers an ambiance of serenity. Witness 400ft waterfall; Vasudhara Falls, pass through India’s last village, Mana, and get incredible views of Himalayan peaks like Neelkanth, Chaukhamba, and Swargarohini.

How to reach Joshimath:

By Rail:

The nearest railway station to Joshimath is Rishikesh railway station at a distance of 250 km on NH58. Rishikesh is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India and trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Joshimath is well connected by motorable roads with Rishikesh.

By Air:

How to reach Joshimath by Flight. Jolly Grant airport near Dehradun (25 km east of the city) is the nearest airport. It is 273 km away from Joshimath. In fact, this airport is closer to Rishikesh (approx. 16 km) and takes roughly 20-30 minutes to reach Rishikesh.

By Road:

You can get to Joshimath from Haridwar or Rishikesh by bus or by hiring a taxi. The drive is very scenic and runs along the Ganga and its tributaries. The buses are mostly private-run and generally in poor to average condition. The buses leave from Haridwar/Dehradun/Rishikesh in the morning starting at 4:30 am.

Satopanth Tal Trekking Inclusions:

1. Accommodation – You will be staying in tents/guest houses for the Satopanth trek.

2. Meals – (Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner). We provide simple, nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the trek.

3. Camping charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.

4. Trekking equipment – High-quality tents and sleeping bags in all the camps. Sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 ºC.

5. Safety equipment – First aid kit, oxygen cylinders, oximeter, etc. will be with guide/trek leader and at the campsite as well to deal with emergencies.

6. Expert trek Leaders – All our trek leaders are at least qualified in basic/advanced mountaineering and first aid course.

7. Expert Trek support team – The mountain staff on this trek consists of certified guides, cooks, helpers, and porters.

Satopanth Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Joshimath

Arrive at Joshimath - meet our representative and check-in at the hotel. Evening free to explore the Joshimath area. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2
Joshimath - Badrinath – Jhamtoli

Drive from Joshimath to Badrinath 45 km, today's Trekking is 8 km. Altitude3640 mts

After breakfast, drive to Badrinath temple and thereon to Mana Village & trek towards Jhamtoli with packed lunch. Overnight stay at camps.

Day 3
Jhamtoli to Chakratirtha

Trek of 8 km, Altitude 4240 meters.

We begin to trek up to Laxmi Van and thereon to Sahastra Dhara. After having packed lunch we proceed towards Chakratirtha.

Day 4
Chakratirtha - Satopanth lake -Chakratirtha

Chakratirtha to Satopanth Lake is around 5 km through moraine and seasonal glacier. You will be walking in the proximity of Nilkantha and Parvati Peak with Chaukhamba looming above all in the front. Balak peak will be on the right. Satopanth lake is a three-cornered lake with icy cold, crystal clear, emerald waters with a circumference of about 1-2 km, it is situated at an elevation of 4465 mts above sea leave. Total trek of 10 km. We trek back to Chakratirtha after having lunch.

Day 5
Chakratirtha – Jhamtoli

The morning after breakfast trek up to Chakartirtha ,there is large formation of glaciers which continue on to the Gaumukh snout of the Bhagirathi ,dinner and over night stay at Camp

Day 6
Jamtoli - Badrinath - Joshimath

Trek down to Mana Village. Visit Ganesh and Vyas Gufa. Drive to Badrinath and visit the temple. After lunch drive to Joshimath.

Day 7
Departure from Joshimath

Morning Breakfast and Departure.

Know Before You Go for Satopanth Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government is to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitisation and use of mask recommended.
  • Professional Treak Leaders are available to ensure high safety and more information and personal attention which are necessary to appreciate a trek.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity will not be available at any campsite.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the Satopanth trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • The Satopanth trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travellers littering may be fined.
