Sagargad Trek From Mumbai Overview

Located in the popular tourist destination Alibaug, Sagargad is a blissful trekking destination that offers a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea from top. As the name goes, Sagar which means Sea and Gad which means Fort,  this place is a perfect trekking destination for both mountain and sea lovers.
This fort is said to exist since the Satvahan dynasty. Shivaji Maharaj won this fort from Adilshah in 1660. Sagargad was one of the forts that were handed over to the Mughals in the Treaty of Purandar. But Shivaji won it back when he escaped from Agra in 1665. Eventually, the possession of this fort was with the British who during the 1880s, built retreat homes for their officers at this scenic spot.

Both beginners and avid trekkers would love this trek due to the picturesque and mesmerizing beauty of the location.  From Khandale village, a few hours of ascending across various waterfalls will take you to the summit. As you reach this gigantic plateau and spend awesome time up there, you’ll enjoy the breeze during monsoons. This hill fort commands a steering view of the entire Alibaug region. Along with the river and waterfall, this location also holds the Siddheshwar Temple. The trek is medium graded and takes an estimated time of 3.5 hours from the base village to the top.

Your journey starts by leaving for Khandale village from the mentioned pick up points by 6:00 AM. You are picked up in a private vehicle with your fellow trekkers. By 9:00 AM you reach the base village, and post an energizing breakfast you start your ascend. After a pleasing trek, reach at the top and begin your fort exploration. Spend some amazing time at the top with a delicious and filling lunch at Machi to rejuvenate you. Post lunch you descend back to the base village which is followed by evening tea and snacks at the base village. You begin your travel back to Mumbai by 5:30 PM. At around 9:00 PM you are back in Mumbai where you mark the end of your journey with beautiful memories.
