Overview

Location: Marchula

Check-In Time: 12:00 PM

Check-out Time: 11:00 AM

Get a thrilling experience in the riverside jungle stay at Jim Corbett national park which welcomes true nature and wildlife enthusiasts. The stay is  located on a secluded bank of the Western Ramganga River deep inside Kalagarh Tiger Reserve, it is one of the most remote wildlife lodges in Northern Indian forests. The cottage's limited indigenous stone, mud constructions and complete involvement with the community makes it the perfect example of sustainability. The spot offers a dining area with a small rack of books varying from the stories of Jim Corbett, birding & mammals encyclopedia. Climb up high to watch how the sunset transforms the forest to a scenic landscape on the Matchan, a watch tower entirely made of wood which is the backdrop of Shivalik Mountain Range it will surely help to spot various species of mammals, birds and if lucky enough to star Bengal Tiger.

The place offers many wilderness activities:

Walking Safari: There is no better way to truly experience the forest than by walking through it. One will often see and learn more on 100m of a trail than on a 2-hour game drive. The foot safari is an expertly guided tour where one can learn to identify different species by their sounds, footprints and the evidence left in their walk. Experience a variety of flora & fauna by digging them deep into the jungle. There are a number of walking trails from the cottage, varying in difficulty, such as routes into the hills or along the river where numerous pug marks can often be seen. The route will be decided according to the seasonal conditions.

Bird Watching: A guide with binoculars & tripods is provided to catch the rich river habitat that attracts Pallas's Lesser and Grey-headed Fish Eagle, numerous kingfishers, Brown and Tawny Fish Owl. The emblematic Great Horn bills journey daily up and down the valley spotted feeding on the ficus trees on the riverside. Many other long tailed colourful birds can also be spotted.

Jewellery making with seeds: This exploration will take you into the forest where we will be identifying and learning about trees, collecting seeds, barks, twigs, feathers, fungi, and different kinds of natural materials and exploring their importance in the ecosystem. We then will use our imagination to create beautiful jewellery, dream catchers, and other decorative items, as well as plant some seeds into the soil around our campus.

Paint the pebbles: Soak in the Ramganga River with silvery sandbanks, beautiful rocks and grass. Show the creativity hiding inside by painting the pebbles & make the place look more beautiful.

Stargazing: Observing the Stars and Constellations in the night through a telescope adds a wonderful experience. The expert will share the information about sky, star constellations, planets that we can see during that particular time, as well as star clusters, nebulae and nakshatra along with scientific and mythological concepts.

How to Reach:
The spot is a 2km walk across a bridge down the Ramganga valley through a small village. After reaching the river bank, cross the river in a bamboo raft with the fisherman. From here it is a short walk to the lodge itself. E-rickshaws are available from the airport & railway station. Shared & private cabs are also easily available to reach the spot.
