Note: The rented vehicles are strictly prohibited in Ladakh by the Ladakh Union so you must take your own vehicle with the proper paperwork to avoid any last-minute hassle. It is also recommended that your vehicle should be 4-wheel drive capable as at some places you might need to engage 4-wheel drive.

Day 1
Arrival at Manali | Land of Scenic Beauty
Manali
  • Manali will be your base for the adventurous self-drive expedition to Ladakh.
  • Reach Manali where you can directly head to your pre-booked hotel.
  • The rest of the day is at leisure, wherein you can choose to explore Manali as per your choice.
  • You can either visit Solang Valley and try out different adventurous sports activities like paragliding, Snow Scooter, Cable Car Ropeway, Skiing, and many more.
  • One can also visit the Hadimba temple, Manu Temple or the old colonial town of Manali.
  • In the evening, you can spend time at Mall Road, wherein you can either go shopping or cafe hopping.
  • Return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Manali.
Day 2
Manali To Jispa | Drive Through Atal Tunnel to Enter A Different World
Jispa
  • Wake up to a beautiful morning in the mountains.
  • Have a lip-smacking breakfast before you start your journey towards Jispa.
  • On the way to Jispa, you will travel through the famous Atal Tunnel, one of the longest underground highways in the world.
  • Move ahead for Sissu and Keylong – the laid-back region where natural beauty remains untouched in its most pristine form.
  • Here you can explore the beautiful Sissu Lake and Sissu Waterfall.
  • Explore the lush green Bhaga valley, and then head over to Jispa.
  • Reach Jispa, which is truly rich in fascinating trails and lush green jungles.
  • Check in to the camp in Jispa and enjoy evening tea with snacks.
  • Overnight stay at camps in Jispa.
Day 3
Excursion to Shinkula | The Gateway to Zanskar Valley
Shingo La Pass
  • Today you'll be taking the path less travelled which will surely be an adventure that you'll remember for a lifetime.
  • After having your morning breakfast you will be embarking on an excursion to Shinkula Pass which is one of the highest passes of Ladakh.
  • We recommend that you fill up the fuel tank of the car at Jispa because there are no fuel stations en route.
  • You'll be first travelling to Darcha from where you will be turning toward Chika and will be travelling through some of the most beautiful landscapes that still remain untouched to some extent.
  • The route will take you from an elevation of 3300m above sea level in Darcha to over 5000m above sea level at Shinkula Pass in a span of 40 Kms.
  • You'll be passing through the barren mountains and a couple of river crossings and driving through them will be a thrill that you might have never fe;lt before.
  • After travelling through the long and flat topmost stretch of Shinkula you'll be travelling back towards Jispa.
  • Reach Jispa in the evening and return to the camp.
  • Overnight stay at camps in Jispa.
Day 4
Jispa To Sarchu Via Baralacha-la | A Night Under Starlit Sky
Sarchu
  • Wake up in the morning and have a healthy breakfast before you start your journey to Sarchu.
  • En route, visit Deepak Tal which acts as a mirror, reflecting the calm surroundings of the snow-capped peaks.
  • You can take a short stopover at the Zingzing Bar – one of the highest roadside bars in the world.
  • Stop by the Suraj Tal which literally translates to 'the lake of sun god' and seems like a green emerald set in the barren Himalayas drenched in mystery as well as splendour.
  • Your next stop is Baralacha La Pass, a picturesque mountain pass standing at 16000 feet, offering you some stunning vistas of the confluence of the 3 valleys.
  • Enjoy your lunch at Bharatpur tent colony or nearby area.
  • Reach Sarchu in the afternoon and rest for some time.
  • Later in the evening, enjoy the beautiful brown mountains and the amazing sunset right from your campsite.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camps in Sarchu.
Day 5
Sarchu to Leh | Drive Through Gata Loops, 21 Hairpin Bends

  • After having your breakfast in the morning, start your journey towards Leh.
  • En route, enjoy the drive through Gata Loops which is a series of 21 hairpin bends that leads to the top of one of the highest motorable passes in the Ladakh region, Nakee La Pass.
  • Your next stopover would be Lachung La Pass, yet another high mountain pass in the region.
  • Take a photo stop on the More Plains where a large stretch of green land is bordered by the mighty Himalayas on all sides.
  • Have lunch at Pang or the nearby area.
  • Upon reaching Leh by evening, complete the check-in formalities and rest for some time.
  • Indulge in a lip-smacking dinner in the hotel.

Day 6
Leh to Sham Valley | Exploring Borders of Leh

  • Wake up to a beautiful morning in the mountains and have a hearty breakfast.
  • Get ready for an adventurous drive to 'Sham Valley', which is beautifully nestled around the Srinagar - Leh highway.
  • Start off the sightseeing by paying homage to the martyrs of the Indo-Pak War at the Hall of Fame.
  • Visit the Spituk Gompa which also has a museum on the premises housing ancient masks, weapons and Thangkas (Buddhist Paintings).
  • Enjoy delicious langar at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and know the story behind the construction of this Gurudwara by the army.
  • Another interesting place to visit today is Magnetic Hill, a small stretch of the road that defies the law of gravity.
  • Visit Indus Sangam Viewpoint to watch the confluence of Zanskar and Indus Rivers.

Day 7
Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung-La Pass | A Drive to the World’s Highest Motorable Road (18000 ft.)
Nubra Valley
  • After having a healthy breakfast in the morning, get ready for the ultimate adventure.
  • This journey will take you through some of the highest passes in the world and will greet you with the ever-changing views of the barren land.
  • Take a stopover at the cafe on Khardung-La Pass, the world's highest all-season motorable road and soak in the views as you will feel like on top of the world.
  • As you descend from Khardung-la, experience a change in landscape from the barren cold desert to the white sand desert as you enter the Nubra Valley full of Nubra Sand Dunes.
  • If time permits, visit the oldest and the largest monastery of Ladakh, the Diskit Monastery, which also houses a large Buddha statue.
  • Enjoy the exquisite double-humped Bactrian Camel Ride, exclusively found in this region, as this region was a part of the famous silk route.
  • Later enjoy camping with a bonfire under the sky full of stars.
  • Overnight stay at the campsite in Nubra Valley.
Day 8
Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake | Recreate the Famous Bollywood Moments

  • Wake up in the morning in the beautiful Nubra Valley and have a scrumptious breakfast.
  • Get ready for the most awaited day as you will be visiting Pangong Lake on the Indo-China border.
  • One of the highest altitude saline water lakes, Pangong Tso will greet you with its changing colours from shades of blue to green to red.
  • Spend the rest of the day exploring the surroundings of the Pangong Lake with the view of the Shyok river on one side and the mountains on another side.
  • You can also recreate some of the moments from your favourite Bollywood movies like 3-idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan and enjoy the place in Bollywood style.
  • Overnight stay and dinner at a campsite near Pangong Lake.
Day 9
Pangong lake to Leh | Excursion to Rancho School

  • Wake up in the morning to the beautiful Pangong Lake view and have a delicious breakfast.
  • As you mark your way back to Leh, take a small stopover at the Chang-la Pass, which is one of the highest mountain passes in the world.
  • You can also visit the Chang-la Cafe, located just on the Changla Pass.
  • Visit the Changla Baba Temple on top, after which the pass got its name and is believed to be the guardian of the people visiting Chang La.
  • Further, visit the Druk Padma School, famed for the movie ‘3 Idiots’ as the site where the last scene was shot.
  • One can also visit the beautifully structured Thiksey Monastery and Shey Palace en-route, if time permits.
  • Upon reaching Leh, rest for some time followed by dinner at the hotel.
  • Overnight stay at a hotel in Leh.
Day 10
Leh to Tso Kar Lake | White water Lake that is Home to the Elusive White Leopards

  • After having your breakfast, check out from the hotel and start your drive towards Tso Kar.
  • Tso Kar Lake is a beautiful saline water lake that is also known as the white lake due to the white salt deposits that surround the lake.
  • The lake is situated in the Puga Valley which is one of the most beautiful valleys in Ladakh.
  • After travelling on the well laid out Leh - Manali Highway and passing through various hairpin bends, take a left turn at Pang-Debering Intersection Point and ride through the exciting rough terrain to reach Tso Kar.
  • On arriving at Tso Kar, check in to the camps and take some rest.
  • You can then go out exploring the stunning Tso Kar Lake and enjoy the beauty and superb surrounding environment in greater Himalayas.
  • In the evening return back to the Camp.

Day 11
Tso Kar to Darcha / Jispa | Witness the Beauty of Barren Lands
Darcha
  • After having a delicious breakfast in the morning, start your journey back towards Darcha / Jispa (based on availability).
  • En route, you will be witnessing the beauty of the barren lands stretched faraway bordered by the lofty Himalayas.
  • Upon reaching Darcha / Jispa, take a rest for some time.
  • In the evening, sit around the bonfire under the sky full of stars as you enjoy your dinner at the campsite.
  • Overnight stay at a campsite near Darcha / Jispa.
Day 12
Darcha / Jispa to Manali | End of Trip With a Bag Full of Life Time

  • In the morning, post breakfast, start your return journey to Manali.
  • Enjoy a series of hairpin bends as you pass through the scenic mountain roads.

Know Before You Go for Leh Ladakh Self Drive Tour Package

  • Since you'll be driving on your own, we try our best to keep the travel time and distances to their lowest but in some cases the travel time can exceed to upto 10 hours. We recommend that you take proper rest stops in between so as to be safe during the entire tour.
  • The rented vehicles are strictly prohibited in Ladakh by the Ladakh Union so you must take your own vehicle with the proper paperwork to avoid any last-minute hassle. It is also recommended that your vehicle should be 4-wheel drive capable as at some places you might need to engage 4-wheel drive.
  • Mobile Network: Only Postpaid network (JIO, Airtel, BSNL) is active in the region.
  • Breakfast availability in hotel on first and last day totally depends on your arrival and departure timings.
  • The advisable baggage limit is 1 rucksack per adult member who is travelling in the car.
  • The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to change in the number days, hotel change, etc.
  • The hotels are subject to their availability. In case they are not available, the travellers will be accommodated in a property of similar standard.
  • Thrillophilia reserves the right to rearrange the itinerary due to any kind of disturbance that occurred (i.e weather condition, political condition or any others) without changing the total number of days and without compromising any service.
  • Covid Guidelines (including RT-PCR Test) issued by the State-Government are to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask recommended.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the tour. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the tour.
  • Pay heed to the tour guide and instructor who will be assigned to you in order to enjoy a safe and sound tour.
  • All entry tickets for stupas, monasteries, sightseeing, state and entry fees, monument entrances, camera charges, permits, etc. are not a part of the package.
  • The itinerary mentioned in the product is recommended however the final decision to visit any location or not depends totally on customer. Furthermore, the hotels(stay locations) will be fixed after confirmation from your end and any changes in hotel during the tour is subject to availability and will invite an additional charge.
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; it is advisable that you take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Liability for change in itinerary due to reasons beyond our control like political disturbances, natural phenomenon, roadblocks, etc. will not be accommodated in the package cost. No bill will be reimbursed for any missed service/facility.
  • Carry enough cash as the number of ATMs in high-altitude regions are comparatively less and there are long queues at times.
  • It is recommended that you fuel up the vehicle at regular intervals as the number of petrol pumps in the region are limited.
  • All the travellers are requested to carry a copy of their medical certificate (if any) with them.
  • If in case you want to or decides to leave the trip in the middle, all the expenses from that point onwards will be borne by you. Neither the operator nor Thrillophilia will be held responsible for such decisions or for any refund.
  • In case if your vehicle breaks down in the middle of the trip, charges for transporting the vehicle to the nearest service hub will be borne by the customer.
  • In case the roads are blocked due to landslides or a reason that is beyond control, Thrillophilia will help rearrange the itinerary for the travellers real-time, however, the cost of alternative accommodation will be borne by the customer as the hotels pre-booked execute their cancellation policies and are nonrefundable.
  • Check your vehicle's tire pressure, fuel availability and fitness properly before every day's drive.
  • Always carry a copy of your vehicle registration certificate, incurance certificate, driver's license and wear seatbelts etc., while driving.
  • For safety purposes, a self drive tour is not recommended for women who are more than 3 months pregnant, anyone who has had major surgery, or has a broken leg/arm, has chronic back or neck pains, etc.
