About the Kedartal Trek:


Kedar Tal near Gangotri is the most sought-after destination in Uttarakhand. An enchanting lake situated next to Kedar Bamak Glacier at the foot of the enormous Thalaysagar and Brigupanth Peak. Kedar Tal is one of the most beautiful high altitude lakes in India at a height of 15583 ft. It catches surreal glimpses of the holy site of Gangotri, which goes through the rough trails encircled by fir and bhoj and alpine trees. Tread the hardest trekking routes that lead you to Bhoj Kharak, Kedar Kharak, and Kedartal, relish the utmost beauty possessed by the glacial valleys. How to reach Gangotri:


By Rail:

The nearest railway station to Gangotri is Rishikesh 234 km before Gangotri on NH58 and is well connected by railway network with major destinations of India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, and many other destinations to Gangotri.

By Air:

How to reach Gangotri by Air- The nearest airport to Gangotri is Jolly Grant Airport which is located around at the distance of 250kms. This airport is well linked to Delhi and there are numbers of daily flights to Delhi which connects to major parts of the country.

By Road:

Gangotri can be reached only via road in a bus, privately operated jeeps, SUVs/ other vehicles. The journey from Rishikesh takes about 12 hours. Taxi/Jeeps are also available from Taxi Stations in Rishikesh, Haridwar & Dehradun. Tourist cabs are available from Dehradun/Rishikesh.


Kedartal Trekking Inclusions:


1. Accommodation – Guest House and Tented accommodation throughout the Kedartal trek package.

2. Meals – (Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner). We provide simple, nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the trek

3. Camping charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.

4. Trekking equipment – High-quality tents and sleeping bags in all the camps. Sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 ºC.

5. Safety equipment – First aid kit, oxygen cylinders, oximeter, harness if required, etc. will be with guide/trek leader and at the campsite as well to deal with emergencies.

6. Expert trek Leaders – All our trek leaders are at least qualified in basic/advanced mountaineering and first aid course.

7. Expert Trek support team – The mountain staff on this trek consists of certified guides, cooks, helpers, and porters.

Kedartal Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Gangotri; Welcome to the land of God, take a serene hike to Surya Kund
  • As you arrive in Dehradun, board a shared cab from Rispana Pul in Dehradun to Uttarkashi
  • Drive for 5-6 hours that takes you through Mussoorie Bypass Road giving you the most spectacular views including the precious views of Tehri Dam Lake as well and proceed to Chilyanisaur
  • Take a short break at Uttarkashi and continue travelling to Gangotri via Harsil that would take another four hours
  • From Uttarkashi, you will have to take another shared cab to reach Gangotri
  • Once you reach Gangotri, go to the temple to perform evening aarti and afterwards, get permission to enter the Gangotri National Park
  • If time permits, hike to Surya Kund as well
  • Stay overnight in a hotel in Gangotri
Day 2
Bhoj Kharak; Enthralling 8 KM spider wall trek
  • In the morning, visit the sacred shrine of Gangotri and wander around the local markets
  • Cross the bridge over Bhagirathi River and start climbing the ascent on the right
  • Walk the steep in a slow constant pace so that you would not be tired so easily
  • The trail passes through pine trees and it goes to enter a mix vegetation zone of fir and Bhoj trees.
  • The silently flowing Kedar Ganga is visible from the top, deep down in the gorge
  • You will also witness the first glimpse of Thalaysagar and every step will take you closer to this mystical mountain
  • Before reaching Bhoj Kharak there is a steep and slant rock amidst the trail with space of just a few steps, also known as Spider Wall amongst trekkers
  • Cross this section and you’ll reach Bhoj Kharak
  • Situated at the elevation of 3,780 m above sea level Bhoj Kharak is a small campsite
Day 3
Kedar Kharak; Discover the rustic trail of Gangotri National Park
  • Stretching along for 5 KM that passes through some of the complicated rugged terrains will take you to Kedar Kharak
  • After every 30 minutes, the serenity seems to change; it starts with a rich flora filled trail and then the Manda peaks' views will come on the way
  • Enjoy the mesmerising views of Bhrigupanth peak
  • Cross the zone of Gila Pahar and if it is not a proper condition, you can take the trek route down to Kedar Ganga, cross the river and then continue hiking against the river flow till you cross the Gila Pahar intersection and then hike back to the trail that leads to Kedar Kharak
  • A wide valley opens up as you proceed towards Lower Kedar Kharak (4100 m) and the trek ends up at the beautiful meadow of Kedar Kharak situated at an elevation of 4,280 m above sea level
  • Overnight stay at Kedar Kharak- one of the most beautiful campsites in the Gangotri National Park region
Day 4
Kedar Tal; Admire the surreal crystal-clear emerald lake that fits perfectly in the landscape
  • Yet another 5 KM long trek to reach Kedar Tal from Kedar Kharak which is filled mostly with moraines and glaciers covered with moraines
  • If you are trekking in June you might have to trek on snow for the last couple of kilometres before reaching Kedartal
  • Cross the brook carrying icy cold water and climb the steep rocky terrain
  • Keep following the cairn markings to ensure that you are on the right trail
  • After climbing the final ridge, Kedar Bamak Glacier's views along with other lakes become obvious from a distance
  • The foot of Mt. Bhrigupanth and Mt. Thalaysagar merges with the Kedar Bamak Glacier is a pleasing sight
  • Continue trekking for another hour further to behold the magnificent views of the high altitude lake, the immaculate Kedar Tal
  • The view of Thalaysagar peak reflecting on the still water of Kedartal is mesmerizing
  • Kedar Tal is situated at an altitude of 4780 m above sea level
  • Explore the Jogin Advance Base Camp and leave from Kedartal around noon and trek towards Jogin (4900 m)
  • This hiking stretch will not only get you well acclimatized but it will also showcase the best views of Thalaysagar peak, its West Ridge will open up and you’ll see the Thalaysagar Icefall up close
  • Later, trek back to Kedar Tal and stay overnight in tents
Day 5
Gangotri; Pay heed to the holy shrine of Ganga
  • Capture the breathtaking sunrise views early in the morning and then head out to enjoy a long and tiring hike back to Gangotri that will take around 7-8 hours
  • If you reach Bhoj Kharak by 03:00 PM, then proceed to Gangotri or camp at Bhoj Kharak
Day 6
Dehradun; It's time to say goodbye
  • Wake up early morning and enjoy the views of the sunrise and wind up the tour as you arrive at Dehradun from Gangotri
  • Reach Dehradun with a pocketful of adventurous memories

Know Before You Go for Kedartal Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • Avoid consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicants during the trek.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
  • In case, the trek needs to be cancelled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government is to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitisation and use of mask recommended.
  • Please provide a valid ID at the time of check-in.
  • The exact location will be shared with you post-booking.
  • Professional guide(s) are available to ensure high safety and more information and personal attention which are necessary to appreciate a trek.
  • Neat and clean vehicle for the journey with experienced driver especially for hilly terrains available.
  • All the activities depend upon the weather.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.
  • Mobile & laptop charging points may/may not be available on campsites at a common point.
  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for this trek.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the Kedartal trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the Kedartal trek.
  • Permit charges are not included in the Kedartal trek package.
