Super duper fun experience in the kitchen with a very professional teacher who taught us well. I learn alot from this session and would definitely come back again.
Even though the cooking class teaches Nepali cuisine, the instructors conduct these classes in English language only. Even so, the participant gets the opportunity to learn some phrases in the Nepali language along with the names of delicacies & spices.
No, the cost of the visit to the local market, and the cost of the ingredients to buy there are all included in the cost of the package. In fact, the cost for the commutation via a rickshaw ride to the local market from the cooking college and back is also borne by the organiser.
The duration of the cooking course Kathmandu is four hours. One can choose from two sessions- morning or afternoon. The morning session commences at 09.00am and concludes at 01.00pm. The afternoon session begins at 01.30pm and ends at 05.30pm.
The Kathmandu cooking class is a well-planned cooking course which is designed to teach enrollees a five-course Nepali meal. One learns to cook authentic and traditional Nepali dishes that are excellent mementoes to take back in the form of recipes. These items are sourced from the kitchens of almost every household in Nepal to allow members of the course to take a peek into the life of a Nepali’s daily food life.
You will learn to make Dalbhat, a mix of rice and lentils cooked and served together, Curry meat or fish along with various other spices, momos, a local version of Japanese Gyozas and finally Sel Roti, a sweet bread as a dessert that concludes this session. If you are allergic to any of the above items, or some food items in particular, then you must leave a note while checking out during the payment process.
Pick up and drop facility from the hotel to the cooking class and vice versa is not included in the package. One can avail a hotel transfer to the class location at additional charges.
The cost for the same is USD3 which includes a one-way cost from either of the destinations for one person. Therefore, the round-trip transfer charge is USD6 per person.
The process for redeeming a voucher for a cooking course in Kathmandu is simple. There are two options to do the same; either you can carry a print of your e-voucher, or you may present a mobile voucher which confirms you as a participant.
The date of this course and the time (morning session or afternoon session) is decided during booking online. Therefore, these cannot vary. You have to redeem this voucher on the date and time mentioned on it. In cases where you have booked the rikshaw transfer cost from the hotel, then the operator will get in touch with you well in advance to settle the pick-up timings. Such participants should wait at the hotel’s lobby at least ten minutes before the scheduled time mentioned by the operator.
One of the unique factors about Nepali food is that it borrows its tastes from three other countries- India, China and Tibet which then forms unique food with a Nepali twist.
While you can learn a lot about this in the Kathmandu cooking class , you will realise that a lot of the flavours come from Indian spices.
This impeccable blend of Nepali food can be attributed to the import and export facilities in the yesteryears from neighbouring nations, which led to a while new Nepali cuisine.
It sets itself apart from India, and it's food types because the cooking methods are much simpler, and unique. The vegetables used to cook some delicacies are all chopped and stir-fried. They replace the use of cream with another sauce which they find is a healthier substitute.
They are not a fan of bread like roti and prefer eating rice twice a day with cooked lentils called dal.
Unless a Nepali is cooking a dessert, they do not use a sweetener or sugar for any other food item which might not be the case in Indian, Thai and Chinese cuisines.
Even though there several food items that originate from Nepal, it is most famous for the very authentic combination of dal-bhath-tarkari, which is rice, cooked lentils and a cooked vegetable. This is a favourite amongst most Nepali households who prefer to have this at least during one meal of their day.
Another food which finds its fame from Nepal is momos, which is now cooked by people over the world. Even though momos is now sold in a number of varieties across the globe, these authentic dumplings are filled with cooked vegetables or meat.
One should carry a notebook and pen to the cooking class to take down notes and recipes in a manner that is understandable to you. Apart from that, one needn’t carry anything to this cooking course Kathmandu since the ingredients, and the organiser provides the equipment required for this class.
Nepali food is much healthier in comparison to most other South-Asian cuisines since their recipes do not require a lot of fat. Their food involves a lot of vegetables, lentils, lean meat, salads and pickles. The consumption of Yoghurt is in abundance in Nepal, and it is one of the healthiest items that they consume daily. Momos are yet another healthy dish since it is steamed, and not fried. Some variants of momos are healthier since they use a filling of paneer, steamed vegetables or meat.
Another healthy item is Thupka, which is a noodle soup made with chunks of various boiled vegetables. Their daily meals consist of rice, cooked lentils and a cooked vegetable which is a healthy combination for lunch and dinner.
