Pachmarhi in the Satpura range of hills is one of the best places to visit in Madhya Pradesh. The hill is primely famous for the wild beauty and the serene vistas of the valley, but what is really worth exploring here are the many secrets of the Satpura. One such great and mysterious place is the Jata Shankar Cave.

Factual Information:
According to popular belief, the caves are the very spot where the Hindu God, Lord Shiva hid in fear, so he could save himself from the Demon Bhasmasur. The cave has 108 Shivlingams (holy symbol attached to the Lord), naturally formed over the years. A stream flows through the cave which further elevates the air of mystery, as its source is still unknown. The stream is called Gupt Ganga and is considered just as sacred as the cave itself.

Activty:
The cave lies in the hills of Pachmarhi and the trek that takes you to the cave passes through the jungles of Satpura National Park. Apart from the dense jungle around the cave, another element that adds a certain flavor of adventure to the trek is the hilly and rocky nature of the trail, which makes walking here very exciting, with the end result feeling the most rewarding of all things that you will see during this trek.

How to Reach:
Jatashankar Cave lies in the hills of Satpura National Park, in Pachmarhi. You can reach this hill station by road from the nearest town of Pipariya, which is well connected to the rest of the state through roads. Pipariya also happens to be the nearest railway head, giving it extra connectivity from the rest of the cities of Madhya Pradesh. The nearest airport that you can find is in Bhopal, from where you can take road transport or a train to reach Pipariya.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Trek to Jatashankar Cave

    8:00 AM: When you arrive at the Pachmarhi Bus Stand, you will be greeted by our representatives and treated with a refreshing welcome drink and warm breakfast.

    9 AM: You will get a briefing about the day and the trek before it begins.

    1:30 PM to 2:30 PM: Lunch will be served post which you are advised to take rest for a few minutes.

    2:30 PM to 4:30 PM: Afterwards, you will be starting the trek to reach the cave in the forests. You will also be trekking forwards to see the famous stretch of woods called the Vrindavan Jungle. Spend some time here in the natural beauty before retracing your steps back to the starting point.

    5:00 PM: Arrive back at the starting point, and start the return journey to bring the experience to an end.
