About the Hemkund Sahib Trek:


The Hemkund Sahib Trek starts from Govindghat, which is about twenty-two kilometers drive from Joshimath. It is located at the height of 15201 ft above sea level and is accessible only from May to October. Hemkund Sahib trek is one of the moderate to easy treks in the Garhwal Himalayan region. The Garhwal Himalayas are magnanimous mountain ranges situated in the state of Uttarakhand. It is bounded on the east by the Kumaon region, on the north by Tibet, and on the south by Uttar Pradesh. On your trek in Garhwal Himalayas, you will witness beautiful meadows, the impressive Himalayan Peaks like Kedarnath Dome, Shivling, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, and large glaciers. It provides various types of trek routes to visitors, from easy to strenuous.

How to reach Haridwar:

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Haridwar. Visitors can take a direct flight to Dehradun from Mumbai or Delhi or connecting flights from anywhere in India. Local vehicles can be availed from outside the airport to reach Haridwar by road from Dehradun.

By Bus: Haridwar can be reached easily by road from Delhi, Haryana, UP, Punjab and other parts of Uttarakhand. A number of state transport and private buses connect Haridwar with these places. Bus service is available on a frequent basis and fares are also economical. Visitors can board these buses depending upon their suitable timing.

Hemkund Sahib Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Delhi – Haridwar – Rishikesh

Begin your Hemkund Sahib trek package by taking an AC train from the New Delhi train station for Haridwar at 06:50 hrs. Once you reach Haridwar by 1:25 hrs, our guide will meet you at the railway station and transfer you to Rishikesh. You’ll check into the hotel and have an overnight stay.

Day 2
Rishikesh - Karnprayag - Joshimath

Start your second day by having a delicious breakfast. After that, we’ll head towards Joshimath via Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Devprayag, and Karnprayag. Devprayag is the confluence point of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Rivers, and the holy Ganges starts over here. You’ll have a delectable lunch on the way. 

Day 3
Joshimath - Govindghat - Ghangaria

As per the Hemkund Sahib trek package, you will head towards Govindghat, i.e., around 22 km from Joshimath, after having your breakfast. You will start your trek to Ghangaria (14 km/3049 meters) through Pulna village and Bhyundar Valley. Ghangaria will be the base camp for visiting the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib.

Upon arrival at Ghangaria, you’ll check into a hotel and relax. You’ll then assemble for a briefing session wherein the instructor will guide you about the routes and the do’s and don'ts during the trip. You can explore the beautiful surroundings in the evening. At night, enjoy a delectable dinner and have a relaxing sleep.

Day 4
Ghangaria - Hemkund - Ghangaria Trek

You’ll start the trail in the morning on the fourth day of the tour. You’ll hike for six kilometers to visit the “Hemkund Sahib, which is a famous pilgrimage site for the Sikhs. Once you reach Hemkund Sahib, you’ll take a dip in the holy lake and savor the tasty “Kadah Prasad"

In the afternoon, you will trek downwards and reach Ghangaria, and you’ll have an overnight stay over there. You can utilize the evening time to explore the local areas and appreciate the breathtaking beauty of nature.

Day 5
Ghangaria

This is an optional part of the trip, which you can undertake as per your personal preference. You can explore the Valley Of Flowers that is renowned for its rich flora and fauna. The trek to Valley of Flowers is around three kilometers long. The trek route descends to the river, and then you’ll have to cross the bridge.

After that, there is a narrow climb of one and a half kilometers to the starting point of the valley. You can click some pictures of this beautiful valley to relish the memories of the trip even years after. After spending some tranquil moments in this picturesque valley, you’ll return to Ghangaria and have an overnight stay.

Day 6
Ghangaria - Govindghat (Trek 14 km) - Rudraprayag (Drive 148 km)

As per the Hemkund Sahib trek package, you’ll have a wholesome breakfast on the sixth day, and you’ll begin your return trail to Govindghat. After that, you’ll head towards Rudraprayag through Joshimath and Karanprayag. Once you arrive at Rudraprayag, you will check into the hotel. You’ll have a lip-smacking dinner, and you’ll enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel. 

Day 7
Rudraprayag - Rishikesh – Delhi

On the last day of the tour, you’ll have your breakfast, and you’ll bid goodbye to your fellow travelers. You’ll drive to Haridwar and catch the Shatabdi train in the evening for Delhi. You’ll arrive in Delhi by 22:45 hrs taking back happy memories of the trip.

Know Before You Go for Hemkund Sahib Trek

  • To have a sound trekking experience, follow the instructions of your instructor, and attend the briefing session.
  • Carry a first aid kit and basic medications during the trip.
  • Do not litter on the way. Throw garbage only in the dustbins or the designated areas.
  • In case of adverse weather or government restrictions, the trip might get canceled, and your operator will provide a feasible alternative in such cases.
  • Cancellations are subjected to the cancellation policies mentioned on the website.
  • Cooperate with your guide, and don’t misbehave with your fellow travelers.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
