Bekal Fort

Bekal village in Kasargod is the site of the largest fort in Kerala, the Bekal Fort. Spread over a massive 40 acres, the 300-year-old structure is very well-preserved and attracts tourists from far and wide. If you’re planning a visit, head to the observation tower, which is one of the most popular spots as it offers a panoramic view of the surrounding towns.
The fort was designed for defence purposes and was not used as an administration centre. Cannon holes in different parts of the structure were meant for weapons to aim and strike. There are chambers and underground tunnels too.
The Fort was constructed in the 17th century. Excavations have unearthed items that date back to the period of the Mysore sultans. Structures have also been discovered including the remains of a temple complex, coins, and a mint house.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Eravikulam National Park

The park is divided into three areas and visitors are allowed only in the tourism area called Rajamalai. There’s still plenty to see, however, and if you’re lucky you may be able to catch the flowering of Neelakurinji, which is endemic to this region of the ghats. It blooms only once in 12 years!
Anamudi, the highest mountain peak in the Western Ghats, looms majestically in the park’s core area. Less than 3 square km of the peak and another site inside the park 20 km away make up the habitat of the critically endangered resplendent shrub frog.

Anamudi Mountain

Hikers and nature lovers eager to explore more of Eravikulam National Park should put Anamudi Mountain on their itinerary. At 2,695 metres, it’s the highest mountain in the country outside the Himalayas.
Covered with verdant green and dotted with rivers, Anamudi is a spectacular sight. However, it’s not possible to hike up the mountain as it’s located in the core area of the park, which is closed to visitors. You can still hike in the tourist zone where there’s a lot to see including the chance to spot the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Before embarking on a hike, you’ll need to take permission from the park authorities who can also advise you on the best routes and provide valuable tips.

Attukal Waterfalls

Located around 9 km from Munnar, Attukal Waterfalls is popular among tourists and picnickers alike.
