Places To Visit In Angkor
Part of the Angkor Archaeological Park, the Bayon temple was built during the 12th century CE, during the rule of Buddhist King Jayavarman VII. Today what we see is a perfect blend of Theravada Buddhist and Hindu styles of architecture patterns, as this temple was modified by various kings later on. Highlights – If you are an architecture lover, you will truly love Bayon temple, where the main deity is Lord Buddha. Built in traditional and historic Khmer style of architecture, this temple contains numerous towers. All these towers have wonderfuls stone faces carved on them. The other highlight here is a couple of bas reliefs found here, representing various mythological values. Location – Situated in King Jayavarman’s capital city of Angkor Thom. Timings – 5AM to 6PM. Entry fee – One day, three-day and seven-day passes cost USD20, USD40 and USD60 respectively.

Built in traditional Khmer style, Ta Prohm is one of the most scenic temples in Angkor region in Cambodia as it has a canopy of trees and jungles around it. This became one of the Buddhist monasteries in Cambodia, thanks to the efforts of King Jayavarman VII. Highlights – One of the features that attracts viewers about Ta Prohm is that it is found in the same way as it was constructed during the 12th century, whereas most of the other temples in its vicinity have been reduced to mere architectural ruins today. During 1992, this temple was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Location – The temple can be found at just about 1km from Angkor Thom on the southern part of East Baray. Timings – 5AM to 6PM every day. Price - All the temples in this area charge USD20, USD40 and USD60 for one-day, three-day and 7-day packages respectively.

This is yet another brilliant piece of Khmer style of architecture in Angkor, Cambodia. Baphuon Temple was constructed around the 11th century by King Udayadityavarman II. The temple served as the royal temple then. Highlights – Baphuon temple is a three-layered beautiful mountain temple and was part of the royal palace during the years of monarchical rule in Cambodia. Around 20th century, the temple started to get dilapidated and it was only during 2011 that the restoration of the temple was completed successfully after a whopping 51 years of dedicated effort. Lord Shiva is the main deity in this temple. Location – Angkor Thom, towards the north western side of Bayon. Timings – 5AM to 6PM. Price – Since this temple is part of the Angkor Archaeological Park, entrance fee is same as other temples – USD20 (one day), USD40 (three day pass) and USD60 (seven day pass). 3-day pass should be used within one week of issuance and 7-day pass should be used within one month of issuance.
