Sultan Abdul Samad Building is a Moorish-style building set amidst Merdeka Square and the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However, a few years after its construction, this monument became a distinguished landmark for many legal luminaries. It served as a popular place for superior courts, the Federal Courts, the Courts of Appeal, and the High Courts of Malaysia. These courts were later moved to Putrajaya. Today, it is home to the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Culture of Malaysia.

There is no particular timing to visit Sultan Abdul Samad Building. The place is open for 24-hours on weekdays, that is, Monday to Friday. It remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. However, certain festivals may affect the visiting time of the building.

History of Sultan Abdul Samad Building 

Sultan Abdul Samad Building was commissioned by the British government for administration purposes. The construction of this magnanimous building commenced on the 6th of October, 1894. The work was completed under the able guidance of Charles Edwin Spooner, the State Engineer of the Selangor Public Works Department.

The building stood tall on 4th of April, 1897 and till today, remains to be one of the most beautiful treasures of Kuala Lumpur. On its opening day, the majestic edifice hosted a massive ball followed by a grand dinner for guests that were invited from all over the world. In other words, the establishment of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building was quite a huge affair.

It originally served as the secretariat for the British government in colonial times.
