Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Udaipur

Explore Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary which once used to be a hunting ground for the royal family of Mewar. Spread across 1,235 acres, the sanctuary has a rich ecosystem and is home to several endangered species of animals. There is an artificial lake, named Jiyan Lake or Tiger Lake which was built by Maharana Raj Singh. One of the most popular ways of exploring the sanctuary is by a jeep safari. An open jeep will take you into the woods to closely witness the wild animals and observe them. Another fun way of exploring the jungle is trekking through the woods, allowing you to feel closer to nature. 

Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. There are over 279 species of plants, 129 species of birds and 21 species of mammals in the sanctuary. You can head towards Tiger Lake which is the most ideal place in the sanctuary for bird watching. Some of the beautiful birds that you may get to see are purple sunbird, black kite, black drongo, Indian robin, laughing dove, house sparrow, jungle babbler and rose-ringed parakeet. Additionally, the sanctuary is also home to several wild animals including boar, cheetah, Indian leopard, sambhars, nilgai, panthers, langurs, monkeys, jackals, panthers, hyenas, spotted deers and chitals.

One of the most popular activities at Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is to enjoy a picnic near Tiger Lake with your loved ones. You will need to carry your own food items as there are no food stalls available inside the sanctuary. Having a picnic near a lake and in the middle of the jungle is an unforgettable experience. While enjoying your meal, you can indulge in bird watching. You will also get to see sparrows and squirrels coming towards you for the food. 

Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of the Sajjangarh Palace which served as a monsoon palace for the royals. Situated on top of Aravalli hills, it was built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh. Compared to other palaces of the Rajputs, this palace is more modest as the construction was halted due to the sudden demise of Maharana Sajjan Singh. Inside the palace, there are spacious courtyards, giant halls and several rooms. The palace is an ideal sunset point as well as offers mesmerising views of the City Palace, Lake Pichola and Chittorgarh.
