Penang National Park

Sprawling across an area of 23 square kilometers, Penang National Park is the smallest national park in Malaysia. It is home to a beautiful seasonal meromictic lake, a rare occurence formed by layers of unmixed freshwater and seawater,, gorgeous beaches, mangrove forests, and lowland dipterocarp forests. Since it harbors around nine majestic beaches, the park is also known as the “Bay of Glowing Amber” as it reflects the glistening sunset at the beaches.

The Penang National Park houses over 417 species of flora and 143 species of fauna, including long-tailed macaque monkeys, turtles, flying lemurs, leopard cats, amphibians, and reptile species. The main attractions of this beach-fringed national park are the Canopy Walk, Monkey Beach, and Pantai Kerachut. Canopy Walk allows visitors to take a walk along the 45-meters long canopy trees that offers a breathtaking view of the natural wilderness of the forest. You can also catch a glimpse of the long-tailed macaque monkeys on the Monkey Beach and watch the turtles come out at night while camping in the Patai Kerachut.

Penang Botanic Gardens is also one of the main attractions of the Penang National Park. It showcases a variety of flora and fauna along the walking tracks in the garden. 1. Penang Botanic Gardens: Penang Botanic Gardens is an ideal escapade for a dose of greenery in nature. This garden is highly renowned for its flora and fauna, especially the long-tailed macaque monkeys that move freely in their habitat. The farm is spread across an area of 25 acres and provides the rarest and most exotic fruits cultivated using organic fertilizers. 5. Sia Boey: Sia Boey was a trading hub in George Town that used to have activities centered around the Pragin Canal, the 19th-century market hall, and the shophouses. Tips to Visit Penang National Park

- Carry your food items and water if you are planning to go for a trek as refreshment facility is only available at the Monkey Beach.

- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and apply sunscreen at all times.

- Use insect repellant cream to avoid getting bitten by any of those.

- Keep your belongings safe as the monkeys tend to take them if left unattended on the beach.

By Bus: The closest bus stop to Penang National Park is Teluk Bahang. You can board the Rapid Penang bus service number 101 from the Komtar Bus terminal and travel for around 45 minutes to reach the Teluk Bahang. From there, you can take a walk to your ideal destination. Bus services are also available from the other parts of the city, like Jetty beach, Chulia Street, and Batu Ferringhi beach.

By Car: You can either hire a cab or taxi to reach Penang National Park.
