About Old Town

Old Town is a prominent area located in the Mombasa region of Kenya. Spread over an area of 72 hectares of the land, the Old Town is inhabited by a blend of local British, Asian, Arab and Portuguese settlers.

Highlights: In the year 1997, the Old Town and Fort Jesus were nominated by the National museums of Kenya for finding a place in the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Buildings that you spot in the Old Town are largely inspired by the trade culture of Mombasa with several references from the Islamic and Portuguese architecture. One prominent tourist attraction here is the Portuguese Fort Jesus.

Location: Old Town lies on the south east end of the Mombasa Island adjacent to the Tudor Creek in Kenya.

Timings: Open all round the year.

Price: Entry to the Old Town is free. You may however have to pay specific prices for visiting the attractions in the Old Town.
