About Endau Rompin National Park

Situated in the extreme South region of Tenasserim Hills, Endau Rompin National Park is renowned for possessing some of the ancient rainforests in the world. Dating back to 248 million years ago, this national park is also home to the second-largest mountain peak in Malaysia. The beautiful damp jungles with waterfalls, animals, and mesmerizing views make for some delightful trekking. 

You will also find some unique varieties of birds and animals in this region, including Asian elephants and cream-colored giant squirrels. In totality, there are about 83 species of mammals, 14 species of snakes, 8 species of lizards, and 3 species of turtles. Some of the other animals that you can spot in this national park are wild boar, slow loris, Malaysian tiger, and white-handed gibbon.

There are three entrances to the park, each having its own specialty. The Endau Rompin National Park Entrance allows you to visit The Kampung Peta and The Selai. On the other hand, the Selai and Kampung Peta Entrance possess some of the finest waterfalls in the world.

1. Flora and Fauna: Endau Rompin National Park has abundant species of frogs, fishes, and leeches. It is also home to insects like bugs, spiders, stag beetles, and rare butterflies. Apart from these tiny species, you can also witness animals like snakes, skinks, monkeys, the rare Sumatran rhinos, elephants, and tigers.

1. Camping: If you are a nature lover and want to have a true jungle experience, you should spend a night in a tent at Endau Rompin National Park. The places where you can camp are Pantai Burung, Kuala Jasin, and Kuala Marong. You will be given some of the basic campsite facilities like simple toilets, cold showers, and a cooking area. However, on the brighter side, you will get to enjoy the scenic view as they are located alongside the river. 

2. National Park Dorm: If you want to make friends during your trip to Endau Rompin National Park, you should try its National Park Dorm. Every dorm is gender-segregated and filled with more than 30 bunk beds. It also constitutes fresh linens and fans that are turned on for a few hours each night to make your stay comfortable. Showers and bathrooms are located in the adjoining building as well. Hence, it will provide you with the best experience of staying at the park. 

3. National Park Chalets: Another location you can opt for at the Endau Rompin National Park is the National Park Chalets. These are the cushiest accommodations available at Kampung Peta and Kuala Jasin. The place does not have an aircon but is well-equipped with fans and electricity that runs only for a few hours at night. Other than that, they have comfy beds and en-suite bathrooms for a comfortable stay at the park.

Tips to Visit Endau Rompin National Park 



- Since there is a limit to the number of visitors allowed in the park at a particular time, it is advisable to book your visit at least three days in advance.

- Hire a local guide if you are staying overnight or going for a trek to the waterfalls. 

- The park is home to leeches. Therefore, it is advisable to bring special leech socks to prevent getting attacked by those pesky parasites. 

- Ensure to pack everything you need, including insect repellent, medication, and torch lights as the park is located far away from civilization and does not have any convenience store.  

- Carry at least two bottles of water to keep you stay hydrated as it will be quite a long hike from one place to another.

How to Reach Endau Rompin National Park

There are different entrances to Endau Rompin National Park. The Selai and Kampung Peta can be visited by Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. If you want to get to the Taman Negeri Rompin entrance, you can easily drive the car to Kuala Rompin for about one and a half hours from Mersing. The Johor Endau Rompin East entrance and Johor Endau Rompin West entrance can be accessed only by 4WD (4 wheel drive). However, the Johor Endau Rompin East entrance is the easiest way to reach your final destination.
